The Audio Craft AC-3000MC is a high-end Japanese tonearm from the late analogue era, designed around a precision uni-pivot bearing system with oil damping to achieve extremely low friction and controlled resonance. Built with a strong focus on adjustability, the arm allows fine tuning of tracking force (0–3g range), VTA and azimuth, making it well suited to careful cartridge matching and optimisation. Audiocraft tonearms are well regarded for their engineering quality and modular design, and the AC-3000MC remains a sought-after option among enthusiasts for its precision, versatility, and classic Japanese build quality.


Condition:

  • This is a used unit.

  • Physically this unit is in good condition for its age. It shows some light wear from use and age. Overall it is still a very nice piece.

  • This tone arm has been tested and is working very well!

  • This unit has the Audio Craft MC-400 tonearm attached.

  • This tone arm has no oil in the damping system at the moment. We recommend filling up the oil damping system after install to avoid leaks and mess.

  • The Audio Craft AC‑3000mc tonearm uses high-viscosity silicone damping oil in its pivot wells. Collectors and restorers typically recommend pure 100% silicone fluid in the 300,000 cSt to 500,000 cSt range.

  • The AC-3000mc is definitely for people who are experienced with turntables and setting up tone arms. This is because this unit is delicate and require fine precision to set up. We will not be able to remotely help with set up or installation. So please ensure you are confident before purchase or have a technician who can install it for you. (If you are able to visit our store in West Gosford, NSW we could help with set up)

  • This sale is for the tonearm pictured. Nothing else is included in this sale.

***PLEASE NOTE: This review is only for the more expensive version here with the all metal grinding mechanism and not the cheaper version that looks the same but has a ceramic grinder that’s also available on this page — hope this helps avoid potential confusion. My advice is to splurge on the metal grinder version. ***UPDATE 3/18/26*** Well, after almost two years of fairly heavy daily use the first flaw has emerged so thought I’d share. Yesterday the silver wrapping on the grinder part came loose making it hard to turn the grinder as it was slipping. I did a quick fix by adding some super glue around the seam at the top of the grinder and that’s done the trick at least for now. I’m leaving my 5-star rating because I remain thrilled with its overall performance and frankly would’ve ordered another one if this fix didn’t work, but so far it appears to be holding. 🤞 So still very happy but just wanted to share in case anyone else experiences this. ***UPDATE 8/18/25*** So I’ve now had this for over a year, and under pretty heavy daily use I’m happy to report it still works as well as the day I bought it. Great product, and it’s a pleasure to use every day. ***UPDATE 10/3/2024*** So, after almost four months of pretty heavy daily use I just wanted to report back that this grinder continues to work perfectly and shows every sign of lasting for years to come. I especially like the glass jar so I can see when I’m running low on black peppercorns, and even though it’s got a small form factor it holds a lot so I don’t have to refill it frequently despite using it multiple times daily. I’m super happy with this product all around and recommend it highly!!! ================================ Been using this for a few days now and am very happy so far. I’ve used a traditional wood pepper mill my whole life, but now it’s just me so I wanted something smaller and with a glass body so I can easily see when I need to add more peppercorns. I also wanted an all metal grinding mechanism (that this version has for an few dollars more) instead of ceramic, which doesn’t seem to hold up as well, and I definitely wanted no plastic parts involved in the actual grinding either — don’t need any more microplastics in my diet thank you. This one seemed to check all the boxes, and so far it’s been great. Initially it was set to a more fine, powdery grind, but it was super easy to adjust to a more course grind that I prefer and it’s perfect. Overall it seems well built and is very easy to use, and as long as this holds up it’s a definite keeper. I’ll report back if any future mishaps, but as of now I’d recommend this very highly!

However, as at least 9 other reviewers have noted experiencing, within 2 weeks of purchase and after very minimal usage, the black retaining ring around the grinder cone & adjustment knob just fell out when I was using the grinder, which was disappointing and indicative of poor design or construction for this part. After some research & experimentation, I was able to pop the ring back into place using needle-nose pliers (you just need something hard and narrow to push and flex the ring a bit, not necessarily pliers). I'm hoping that this is not a harbinger of other problems to come. Otherwise it's a nice grinder.

Refilling it was also straightforward. I had no trouble pouring in coarse Himalayan salt from a larger container without making a mess.
