This wine is named in recognition of the Tannery which was located on this property about 100 years ago. The Hollick family first planted Cabernet Sauvignon on this site in 1975, and several years later planted Cabernet Franc and Merlot. These classic varieties create a food friendly style which has been famous for several decades. A cool and dry April was perfect for ripening, allowing full flavour development and optimal sugar levels. Merlot is showing bright fruits with high colour intensity. Cabernet is deep and rich in colour with great varietal definition and soft ripe tannins. The yields were moderate, and the slow cool ripening was very even, delivering fruit with fine tannins and strong varietal flavours. In the winery, the grapes were handled carefully to retain the individual fruit flavours which were developed in the vineyard. 18 months maturation in a combination of French and American oak barrels, has given the 2019 Tannery Block an elegant structure and a long finish.
