Victron Energy Pre-Charge Cable for Safe DC System Commissioning

Connecting a high-capacity battery bank to an inverter, charger, or MPPT solar charge controller can be a risky process if not managed correctly. Because modern power conversion equipment contains large internal capacitors, making a direct electrical connection often results in a massive and instantaneous surge of power known as inrush current. This surge can cause severe arcing, loud sparking, and significant wear on battery terminals. The Victron Energy Pre-Charge Cable is an essential commissioning tool designed to safely bridge this connection, allowing you to energise your system in a controlled, spark-free manner.

Mitigate Inrush Currents and Prevent Hardware Damage

When integrating large-scale 12V, 24V, or 48V DC power systems, the sudden rush of energy into empty capacitors acts momentarily like a short circuit. Without a dedicated pre-charge mechanism, this high-energy transfer can physically pit connectors, damage internal circuitry, and even trigger the short-circuit protection within a lithium battery's internal Battery Management System (BMS).

By utilising this specialised cable, you introduce a controlled resistance pathway that slowly fills the capacitors prior to making the final high-current connection. This careful equalisation of voltage eliminates the risk of dangerous arcing and significantly reduces thermal stress on critical electronic components. Ultimately, employing this straightforward tool safeguards your expensive equipment and dramatically extends the operational lifespan of inverters and solar charge controllers.

Engineered for Safety and Reliability

Unlike makeshift generic resistors that can overheat or shatter under load, this authentic Victron accessory provides a highly reliable, purpose-built solution. The cable is fitted with heavy-duty, fully insulated crocodile clips, ensuring secure and safe temporary attachment to battery terminals, busbars, or isolation switches. The integrated inline electronic module regulates the current flow effectively, offering plug-and-play simplicity for both professional off-grid installers and DIY system builders.

Key Features of the Pre-Charge Cable

  • Eliminates hazardous arcing: Prevents loud sparks and terminal degradation during system start-up.
  • Protects sensitive capacitors: Regulates the initial power draw to extend the lifespan of your inverters and MPPT charge controllers.
  • Avoids BMS tripping: Prevents the sudden inrush current from triggering the overload protection on modern lithium battery systems.
  • Premium construction: Features an inline electronic module and heavy-duty insulated crocodile clips for secure, highly dependable connectivity.
  • Scalable application: Multiple cables can be wired in parallel to safely pre-charge massive battery banks or multi-inverter setups like parallel MultiPlus-II configurations.

Essential for Marine, Caravan, and Off-Grid Configurations

Whether you are commissioning a high-capacity off-grid solar array, upgrading a marine battery bank, or replacing components in a caravan electrical system, controlled start-up procedures are non-negotiable for system longevity. The Victron Pre-Charge Cable (ASS070400100) is compact enough to keep in any professional toolkit, yet robust enough to handle the demands of large industrial DC power setups. By making this small addition to your commissioning process, you can prevent unnecessary downtime and ensure a professional, highly secure installation.

Ready to Commission Your System Safely?

Do not risk damaging your premium electrical components with unprotected battery connections. Ensure a smooth, spark-free start-up by adding the Victron Energy Pre-Charge Cable to your toolkit today.

Chef’s Kiss! Quality Product at an Amazing Price!
Size: Large
The large is a perfect size for my 66# and 110#. If you have a smaller dog, consider a medium. Fill them with peanut butter, 1/2 banana each, wet kibble (paste) or pumpkin puree, and put into the freezer. Not as stiff as their Kongs. Both dogs are strong chewers and these have held up. Clean the inside with a baby bottle brush.

Stands up to puppy teeth!
Size: Medium, Size: Medium
I was fostering 2 7-week old puppies that chewed on EVERYTHING! I got these AND a couple of the Kong brand chew toys. These have stood up much better to the puppy teeth than the Kongs did. I throw them in the dishwasher (not every time) and I also have a small straw brush to clean them. They are easy to fill, and once they are done with the treats (PB butter, yogurt, pumpkin, apple sauce etc.), they continue to chew on these. When you throw them, they have a fun bonce. I ended up foster failing one of the puppies, but we still use these often. They still look brand new and I have had them for about 6 months. I got the medium, my dog is about 13 lbs now and the size is perfect for her. The material is strong and I don't hear a peep when she is chewing on it. I would 100% recommend these!

Great toys. Bouncy, chewable long term.
Size: Medium, Size: Medium
We got these for our puppy and to see how they would compare to kongs. Our dogs love these more than the kongs and so far, with two chewy dogs, they have not destroyed these yet. They are very bouncy and provide a lot of chasing fun. We will be buying more and we recommend these.

Durable
Size: Large
Excellent material. I wish the hole was a little smaller to keep the treats in better. Also wish they were a little larger and/or oddly shaped so as not to fit under the sofa. Still totally worth it.

Subtle, great dog toy design!
Size: Large
These things are amazing. Stuff them with peanut butter and treats and freeze them of course, but football spike them across the yard to drive your overly hyped dog nuts! And the hole allows you to safely pry it out of a tug battle , just a great design! And it can bobble across a small living space without getting lost like a ball would. Love it!
