In King of Monster Island, players assume the roles of giant monsters collaborating to thwart a formidable Boss who is attempting to build an interdimensional portal. Each turn, players roll dice to perform various actions, including dealing damage to other monsters, healing themselves, gaining energy, purchasing cards, moving around the island, activating human support, and boosting their fame.

The Boss's actions are controlled by the game itself. Using the dice results rolled into the volcano, the Boss will move, deploy minions, and attack nearby monsters. The Boss aims to establish pylons to complete the portal's construction.

To win, players must defeat the Boss before it activates the portal or eliminates a single Monster, or Earth will face destruction!
