In early 20th-century Europe, six major European powers compete for power and influence during the age of imperialism. However, behind the scenes, these nations are merely puppets in a complex game, as international investors steer the destinies of the great powers. Each player takes on the role of one of these investors, gaining control over a great power by issuing loans—a control that can be lost again, creating ever-changing strategic dynamics.

Following *Antike*, *Imperial* is the second release by Mac Gerdts. Like *Antike*, *Imperial* is characterized by simple rules governing the clash of fleets and armies, with gameplay streamlined by the rondel mechanism for action selection. The game features a rich array of components, including a large game board, cardboard loan certificates, and wooden pieces uniquely shaped to represent armies, fleets, and factories.
