Кроме того, он дважды совершал походы в Германию и Британию с карательными, завоевательными и показательными целями. Постоянно сталкиваясь с превосходящими силами галлов, полководец неоднократно применял тактические хитрости и уловки, использовал сложные инженерные сооружения, а в кульминационной операции войны — осаде Алезии — одновременно разбил защитников города и пришедшие им на помощь подкрепления. По итогам войны к Римской республике была присоединена территория площадью в 500 тысяч квадратных километров, которую населяло несколько миллионов человек. Благодаря своим победам Цезарь добился популярности в Риме и сумел накопить огромные богатства, что позволило ему успешно начать гражданскую войну в 49 году до н. э.
