The Ross Evolution R represents the pinnacle of what Ross Reels' engineers and machinists can achieve. This is not just a fly reel — it is a work of art backed by industry-leading technology, proudly machined in Montrose, Colorado, USA.
At the core of the Evolution R is a fully sealed carbon fiber drag system with an industry-best power-to-weight ratio. Featuring a proprietary carbon fiber and stainless steel disc stack, the drag delivers smooth, consistent stopping power across all freshwater, warm water, and saltwater applications — from delicate dry fly presentations on a mountain stream to hard-charging Redfish on the flats. Every internal component is machined stainless steel for uncompromising durability and corrosion resistance.
The ultra-large arbor spool features an innovative shape engineered to force even winding of the line across the face of the spool during retrieval — a breakthrough design never before seen in a fly reel. All models weigh less than 5.2 ounces, fully machined from 6061-T6 proprietary aluminum alloy specifically engineered for Ross Reels. The handle is machined from canvas phenolic rod resting on a 7075-T6 chromated aluminum post, delivering reduced weight and a superior grip even when wet.
Quick-release spool and easy left to right-hand retrieve conversion make rigging fast and simple. Type II anodized finish provides the perfect balance of hardness and color.
Available in Purple, the Evolution R covers 3 to 8 weight lines making it one of the most versatile reels in the Ross lineup — equally capable on a 3 weight dry fly rod as it is on an 8 weight streamer or saltwater setup.
