ABOUT THE COURSE

This course caters to Engineers, Technicians, Facilities Managers, Energy Professionals, Architects and others who are interested in enhancing their understanding of solar renewable energy, and would like to learn about methods, best practices and strategies for selection of the most suitable solar renewable energy alternative, with technical, geographic and financial feasibility in mind. The course highlights the four-pillar approach or perspective on formulation of a business entity’s energy vision and how solar and non-solar renewable energy options fit within. Participants are primed by introduction to a few important fundamentals of energy, energy facts, and the “grid” to set the tone for better comparison of current source of energy with optimal renewable energy alternative, solar or non-solar. Importance of the concept of most direct application of solar or non-solar renewable source
to the final energy demand point is highlighted. After the introduction, this seminar dives into some of the more proven and mainstream solar renewable energy topics. Current footprint and specific applications of major solar renewable energy systems are examined. Key differences between solar heat and solar PV systems are highlighted. Since renewable energy storage is gaining increased importance – as companion investment to actual solar investments - various proven energy storage technologies are explored, including batteries, flywheels, and electrolysis systems. Hybrid, Off-Grid, solar and wind renewable energy systems are discussed. Utilization of solar light in day lighting applications is covered. Combined use of day lighting, energy conservation and PV in Zero Energy Buildings is explained, aided by real life examples. The use of solar heat in building heating and cooling processes is highlighted. Futuristic, space-based, solar PV array type solar energy harnessing
systems are presented and explained through illustration. Participants are apprised of major solar energy installations currently in operation and some that are work-in-process, in the US and abroad. The discussion on the topic of solar renewable energy is sustained by diagrams, schematics and pictures pertaining to major renewable energy systems. Board acceptance guarantee.

Learning Objectives - Upon successful completion of this course,
participants will be able to:

  • See the role of solar, and renewable energy in general, within the four-pillar energy vision that every energy manager should consider.
  • Perform technical/engineering and cost comparisons between energy obtained from the grid versus the energy harnessed from solar and non-solar renewable sources. Identify and quantify technical and financial benefits of solar renewable energy systems.
  • Specify and implement solar renewable energy systems that leverage direct application of solar renewable energy sources to the point of use, thus maximizing the efficiency and net benefit of renewable energy systems.
  • Examine and assess alternative solar renewable energy technologies on the basis of physics and engineering principles that correlate physical parameters, climactic conditions, and geographical locations to the power and energy output of solar renewable systems.
  • Evaluate technical/engineering strengths and weaknesses of major solar renewable energy technologies relative to other renewable technologies like wind, biomass, geothermal, and the grid.
  • Follow progress on some of the major, more recent, notable solar renewable projects in the world. Learn from the lessons learnt on these projects in the past to avoid pitfalls in the design/specification of solar and other renewable energy systems in the future.
  • Identify some of the more unbiased and reliable technical and commercial information sources in the energy arena; thus, staying abreast of progress and current data in the solar renewable energy realm, beyond this seminar.

Literally perfect and exactly what I needed!
Color: Cool Grey, Size: 24x24x12 inch
I can't recommend this enough! It was exactly what i was looking for! I have an annoying habit of researching everything for months before I purchase something that will get used this often. I finally decided on this one and I was very pleasantly surprised. I needed a wedge pillow to put at my back while sitting in bed. Mostly for when I'm working on my laptop. This one was the perfect height and perfect fit for me.I'm a female that is 5'4 and weigh about 117pds. I wanted something firm enough to support my back, and this most certainly does! It had a very pleasant appearance with the light gray sides. It has a removable cover I can take off and wash when needed. It's portable enough to move from room to room, also works great on my couch and it has amazing versatility. It can also be used as a pillow for someone that might need to sleep at a slight incline. It also works if you need to prop your legs up. It came vacuum packed. Once opened It said to let is sit for at least 24-48 hrs to give it time to properly inflate. For me, It plumped right up immediately! Again, from someone that does her research, if your looking for something like this at a reasonable price, this is it!

It was worth every cent
Color: Cool Grey, Size: 24x24x12 inch
I have BPPV. It's a condition where tiny ear crystals come out of place and move within your ear canals - this fools your brain into thinking you're in motion, causing severe dizziness. The most common treatment is the Epley Maneuver, and that actually helps a lot. However, I was going through a period where every single day I'd wake up with severe dizziness. Even if I managed to do the Epley Maneuver and it worked, the entire rest of the day would be ruined because I'd still feel generally unwell and nauseous. I ended up getting a book about BPPV and the author strongly recommended sleeping at at least a 30 degree angle. So, that's why I ended up buying this wedge pillow... I started using it April 26 and today is May 17. Since I began using it as a pillow, I have not woke up dizzy again. That is so huge! It may be that sleeping at a 30 degree angle deserves 5 Stars but thought I'd give this pillow 5 Stars too, as it's been a great experience. If you suffer from this, here's how the angle should be...If you lay your head on a pillow and open your eyes, you should not be looking at the ceiling. With the right angle, you should be looking at where the wall meets the ceiling. If so, you know you're at the right angle. As far as pillow itself, I'd say the pillow case fabric is of average quality. Not really remarkable in any way. It seems decent. Good value for the price. The inside is firm (which is just what I needed) but comfortable, and I tend to not move around much the entire night. I like this very much and if it does start wearing out, I'll definitely come back here and buy another. Would recommend.

A bit too firm but great otherwise
Color: Cool Grey, Size: 24x24x12 inch
I got this wedge pillow primarily to have something to lean my head against (I like to lay on my side when reading or looking at my phone at night sometimes), or to sit upright when reading in bed. It's very comfortable doing both now. It does a really good job at being a nice support for the back of my bed. Only negative is I feel it's too firm. I wouldn't use it as a primary pillow, but it's definitely good for back support at least. While I won't mark it down for this, I do find it very large. If you have anything smaller then a queen it may take up more of your bed then you'd like. Definitely recommend. Hopefully will last quite a long while as well.

So helpful after surgery.
Color: Solid Warm Gray, Size: 24x24x12 inch
Perfect support while recording from abdominal surgery. This pillow maintains its shape and is not overly soft. I used it vertically as a prop for watching television and then used it horizontally to prop myself up to sleep, once I returned to sleeping in bed. I used this daily for 6 weeks or so following surgery. The cover can be removed and machine washed. The non-slip nubbies are helpful. This pilllow is high quality and really helped to minimize pain and improve my sleep after surgery.

Nice wedge pillow but not enough...
Color: Cool Grey, Size: 24x24x12 inch
It came compacted and when I opened it expanded almost immediately, maybe took like 20 minutes to fully decompress. Its soft and comfortable and the cover is really nice. But it does have a strong chemical smell, which is normal for this kind of brand new memory foam, I just put it on a table with a window open near it and after maybe 24 hours the smell was almost completely gone. The problem is that I bought this to have a elevated position when sleeping but the 30° are just not enough for me. I wish it was at least 45° but I could not find any pillow with that amount of degree... it's either 30° or like 75° in the other position. At the base of the pillow there is a little ridge that is comfortable for the lower back but makes me slide down in the middle of the night so I end up almost laying flat with my neck on the base ridge. With my slim build my lumbar area gets some nice support but makes my head almost have a "fall backwards" sensation, I like having my neck have a "push-forward" position with my pillow, but when adding another pillow to try and get to a comfortable position it only makes me slide down even more... :/
