OriginNative to freshwater systems of New Guinea and nearby regions. Typically inhabits slow-moving creeks, backwaters, and muddy or leaf-littered habitats.
FeedingCarnivorous micropredator. Readily consumes:
- Live or frozen micro-foods (daphnia, baby brine shrimp, bloodworms, mosquito larvae)
- Small sinking carnivore pellets
- Finely chopped meaty foods
A varied diet helps maintain condition and encourage natural behavior.
Tank MatesPeaceful but easily outcompeted. Best kept with small, calm community fish such as micro-rainbows, small rasboras, shy gouramis, or other non-aggressive species. Avoid boisterous or fast-feeding fish.
