Background

Highly prized and mined by humans for over 7,000 years the ancient peoples of the earth have long had a connection with this much prized semi-precious stone.  Amethyst is a violet variety of quartz often used in jewelry & metaphysical practice. The name comes from the Ancient Greek ἀ a- ("not") and μέθυστος méthystos ("intoxicated"), a reference to the belief that the stone protected its owner from drunkenness. The ancient Greeks wore amethyst and made drinking vessels decorated with it in the belief that it would prevent intoxication. It is one of several forms of quartz. Amethyst is a semiprecious stone and is the traditional birthstone for February.

How our Pyramids are Made:  All of our Amethyst Pyramids are made by hand by Artisans in India.  This is not to say that they do not using a grinding stone that may be electrically powered, but it does mean that they don't just dump beautiful crystals into a machine and out comes a finished Pyramid. These are hand-crafted by skilled Artisans.


The Artisan first starts by cutting rough crystal material into square shaped pieces that are roughly 50% bigger than the finished Pyramid will be.  This is all dependent on the quality of the material as some material that is hard to work with like Green Epidote or Pyrite that have crystal cavities [called vugs] that can jeopardize the integrity of the wand.  

What you may not be able to appreciate is that quite a few of the Pyramids break during one of the steps from start to finish. The good news though, for us crystal lovers, is that none of the crystal goes to waste...they save all the pieces and make smaller products from broken Pyramid pieces. 

So, from here they start to cut off pieces as you can imagine and then start the laborious process of shaping her into the work of art waiting for you to call her home.  It takes a lot of time, can be VERY dusty work depending on the crystal, but is a labor of genuine love of these artisans.

So, in determining a Pyramid's value, often they are priced by the crystal material's cost, most often in $/ Kilogram and then the amount of time to create the wonder-full work of art. If these were made in the USA the cost would be 10 times what you are paying now.  Thankfully the cost of living in places like india, Morocco and Peru are very low. To quote my dear friend Rashid from Morroco, "It is cheaper to live in Morocco and a carver can live well on $10 per day in wages!"

Not only is it a good price for how much you get, (09/25- $22 for 35.2 oz) but this is some of the smoothest coffee I've ever tasted. The beans are so shiny and just pretty. They're not all dried out and dull and dessicated looking like some coffees... The beans smell so good in the bag and even better once I've ground them. They grind up very quickly and easily too. There's no bitter aftertaste. Just pure, delightful, delicious coffee. I got the 5/10 espresso, and it's perfect for me. it's just strong enough. I like medium-strong roasts, so if you prefer darker or lighter roasts they have plenty of other options. I use both a drip coffee pot and a French press and this works beautifully in both. The crema in the French press is gorgeous. It's so far above other brands- even Seattle's best and eight o clock and Cameron's, which I thought I really liked... They don't hold a candle to this. I can't wait to try the other flavors.
