Keyper is a game with high player interaction for two to four players played over four rounds. Each round represents a season: spring, summer, autumn and finally winter.

Each player starts the game with their own village board, a mini keyp board, 12 village tiles, a keyper(waving meeple) in their player color, and a team of eight multi-colored keyples, including two white keyples. Each differently colored keyple is a specialist in one activity: the brown keyper is a woodsman, the black keyple is a miner, the orange keyple a clay worker, etc. The white keyples are generalists who can represent any other color.

Keyper is a worker placement game. (Keyper is the eighth new title in the medieval Key series of games, with Keydom, the second in the series being widely recognized as the first of the worker placement genre of games.) What makes Keyper special is that when one player places a keyple on a country board, another player can join them with a matching colored keyple on the first player's turn to the benefit of both players. In this way some players are likely to have played all their keyples before others. All keyples have the potential to work twice. If a player has played all of their keyples, but another player still has some, then on their turn the player with no remaining keyples can lay down one or more keyples on the country board they have claimed or in their village board to secure additional resources or actions. It can therefore be doubly beneficial to co-operate with your fellow players, although Keyper is not a co-operative game in the usual sense of the term.

The country boards are also noteworthy in that they can be manipulated and folded at the beginning of summer, autumn and winter to show one of four different permutations of fields for that season. A player will chose the one to suit their strategy, often hoping that another player will complement their choice. Certain fields on the country boards are available only in certain seasons, e.g., raw materials can be upgraded to finished goods only in spring and summer after which you can only convert using tiles in your own village. Gem mining occurs only in autumn and winter.

A player's strategy is likely to be influenced by which (seeded) spring country tiles they acquire and by the particular colored keyples they have available in the later seasons. Different combinations will encourage a player to develop their farm or village, help with their shipping or mining activities, and prepare for the seasonal fairs. Players constantly need to evaluate whether or not to join other players, when to claim a country board, whether to play on their own or another player's country board, when to use their own village, and whether to create a large or small team of keyples for the following season. The winner is the player to gain the most points, usually through pursuing at least a couple of the different strategies.

In addition to the theme and mechanisms, Keyper has similar traits to the earlier Key games: Game actions are positive and constructive, not destructive; player interaction is through the game mechanisms not direct, and like Keyflower, the previous game in the series, there is a lot of player interaction.

Awesome. Simply Awesome.
Format: Hardcover
I have been a fan of the show since I watched the premiere of it all those years ago. The first episode had me hooked and I was so sad to see it end. I bought the dvds immediately and while those are just as good, I still felt like I was missing some of the artwork that went into the show. I saw this book and thought about getting it, but wasn't entirely convinced when I looked at the preview. It looked cool thats for sure, but it didn't really show what was in the book and I did not want a book of still shots from the show. On a whim I bought it because my curiosity was to much to handle and I am so glad I did! It is not a bunch of still shots from the show, but delves into how they went through the process of getting the show on the air, the gradual development of the avatar world including the characters, bending and cross-bred animals, and how the story continually evolved until the final chapter. And with each step of the way there are concept drawings by Bryan Konietzko and other equally talented artists that really allow you to dive into their imagination and creativity. Each page was a constant struggle between staying on the page and examining every drawing or hurrying onto the next page. And of course the creative charge that it gives you is insane because all you want to do afterwards is draw, draw, draw! I would not recommend this book to people who want to get to work on time because I know I was late for the following days. In summary, if you love the animated series or animation in general- don't even think about it and get this book right now. You won't be sorry you did. I know I'm not!

Beautiful Art and Great Insight for All Fans
Format: Hardcover
I'm a huge fan of the series. Not just for the story, character depth or enticing music.. but the art. It's what hooked me the first episode I saw. I mean, c'mon, you can't deny how gorgeous the premiere looked! So yes, I JUMPED at the opportunity to grab a copy of this baby. The cover is quality. Then you open up to the map of the Avatar world followed by an introduction given by M. Night... And then, the revealings of Avatar's beginnings come to light. One of the things I have to stress about this book is the amount of insight about the behind the scenes work. For the fans who want to know how this deep story came to light, they tell you and they don't hold back. Everything from insights on the difference between American Animation studios and Asian Animation studios to momo going from a robotic monkey to a lemur explained.. It's really great and helped me appreciate the show a lot more. This makes up the first of five chapters. After this, it comes on to highlight sketches from each episode in chapters made up of each season. Some explained in depth, such as "Jet" and "The Blue Spirit" and others just illustrations with very minimal explanation, such as "The Deserter". (Season one). They include small extras about the DVD covers and the chibi Avatar animations as well. The artwork is beautifully colored and high quality ensured. It looks absolutely great. My only nitpick about the book is how short it feels. At times, I wanted more artwork and more details, or wanted some of the art featured to be larger so I can gasp at the details. All in all though, this book really shows how much thought, love and care was put in and the vast amount of talent of those who worked on it. Boy do they have talent. The art speaks for itself. Even friends who aren't fans of the show loved looking through the book. A must buy for any fan or anyone interested in this line of work for that matter. Go! Buy it! The Avatar will blow you away! Eh heh...

Best Supplemental Book EVER!
Format: Hardcover
This is probably the best Avatar related product I ever bought apart from the three seasons that comprise the series. The book details everything you would want to hear about especially if you are interested in "Behind the Scenes" things like I am. This book details pretty much the entire production process. It features how Bending was inspired, early character designs, story ideas, even how they came up with the hybrid animals. I love how the creators talk about each character, and every single episode is talked about in this book, even if they only take a page to talk about. This book impressed me beyond words. I loved each page, each drawing, some of the early work on Iroh looks really cool. If you are a fan of the animated series this will make a phenomenal addition to your collection of Avatar related memorabilia. It's a wonderful book and I plan to read it many more times. If I could put one criticism to this book it would be that there is no explanation of where Zuko's mom went but I can live with that until the next comic book comes out.

Gorgeous.
Format: Hardcover
This artbook is utterly beautiful. When I first tore open the box and laid my eyes upon the product, I literally gasped in amazement. After watching The Last Airbender movie, simply thinking about Avatar filled my body with disgust and made my gag reflex quite sensitive. I couldn't even watch the show without having terrifying flashbacks of the disgraceful film. Thankfully, looking at this book reopened my eyes to the sheer brilliance of the true series. Every single word written in this book is basically pie for an avatard like me. Bottom line: I ate it all up. And I loved it. This book is filled with details about the series, how the makers came up with their ideas, what inspired them, and so much more. What REALLY put the icing on the cake is the artwork (duh h4x0rzzzzz, it's an artbook). Every little pencil sketch, drawing, painting, left me in awe. So stunning! Most of the time when I buy books, I'll read/look at them once or twice and then it spends the rest of its book-life sitting on my bookshelf, collecting book-dust. I can guarantee you that this is a treasure that won't have the opportunity to sit still. Definitely worth the buy!

Must Have for All Fans!
Format: Hardcover
This book is wonderful! If you are a fan of the show, it is indeed a "must have." As an artist, I was also hoping for a lot of character designs so I could have accuracy if I decided to make some fanart, and this is chock full of character designs. It has every last costume each main character or secondary character wore as well as designs for all of the people you see milling about the background of the episodes. There are beautiful samples of environments, building designs, and production artwork as well, and many humorous little notes jotted here and there next to the art. There are even images of the Wanted Posters and a certain Waterbending Scroll. ;) They go into detail about the creations of the characters, go over episodes, and give you a lot of fun trivia to know. So if you are an artist also looking for some reference material(this had all I was hoping for and tons more) or you just want a ton of fun facts and nice images to look at, you will not be disappointed!
