Валентин Чемерис (1936—2016), відомий український письменник, автор історичних та фантастичних романів і оповідань, романів-есе, збірок гумору, сатири, пародій, творів для дітей, лауреат багатьох літературних премій, зокрема Міжнародної преміі Українського козацтва 'Лицарське перо' (2008).  Свій творчий шлях він розпочав у 1959 році, й послужний список Чемериса вражає: за його життя вийшло друком понад 70 книжок. Найпомітніше місце у творчості письменника посідають історичні романи, деякі з них навіть стали культовими. У цих творах автор цікаво, небайдуже та неупереджено розповідає про минуле України, використовуючи яскраві образи, що пробуджують уяву, залишають слід у душі, викликають гордість за свій народ. 

У романі 'Ольвія' йдеться про конкретну і важливу історичну подію — війну між скіфами та могутнім перським військом царя Дарія, що відбувалася наприкінці VI століття до нашої ери. А на тлі цієї війни розгортається історія короткого і трагічного життя юної красуні-гречанки Ольвії, яка заради союзу зі скіфами іде заміж за скіфського царя Тапура.

Надзвичайно захоплюючий сюжет, пригодницький жанр, у якому написаний роман, зробили книжку дуже популярною. Згодом вона увійшла до 30-томної бібліотеки шедеврів історичних романів України. У 2009 році письменник отримав Всеукраїнську літературну Аркадієвську премію за цей роман.
