Allgemeine SS Model 1916/7 Double Decal Helmet, Direct Veteran Family Acquisition-This helmet was acquired by us from the son of the veteran who brought it home. We will supply his name and the info we have including his ASN to the buyer. He was a member of the 2nd Cavalry Division and received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart during the Battle of the Bulge in Bastogne. He went on to have a distinguished law career. The son told me that he and his family played with this helmet when they were kids. It was originally a M16 WWI army helmet made in Austria. It was reissued for use by the Allgemeine SS. It was painted black and this finish remains 65% intact with the original finish visible where it is missing. The left side has a party shield that is 80% intact. The right side has an SS runic shield that has toned and has some wear and it was touched up at some point. The son told me he did this. Inside, the steel liner band is present as are all three of the liner pads…..but only one is still connected. The other two are included but not attached. The original field grey finish is seen inside the shell from the liner band up. It is a large size 68 helmet. It appears to have some kind of maker mark by the chinstrap bale but I cannot read it. Speaking of the chinstrap, the original brown leather one is present. It is just partially intact with lots of wear and tear. This is a very special piece that has NEVER been in a collection!
