Natural Indigo Powder – Sumatra Indigo

This is a rare natural indigo powder from Sumatra, made from Indigofera longeracemosa, a lesser-known indigo species valued for its strong blue pigment. Unlike cheap “indigo powder” sold for hair coloring, this is a textile dye prepared for vat dyeing.

Use it to create clear blues on wool, silk, cotton, linen, and other natural fibers. Like all indigo, it does not need a mordant. It must be used in an indigo vat with an alkali and a reducer, where the blue pigment is temporarily made soluble so it can enter the fiber.

Our Sumatra indigo comes from a small family-run farm in Indonesia, where the plants are grown without pesticides and processed by traditional alkaline extraction. It is suitable for fructose vats, iron vats, hydros/thiourea dioxide vats, fermentation vats, and other standard indigo methods.

Why choose this indigo?

  • Made from Indigofera longeracemosa
  • No mordant required
  • Suitable for wool, silk, cotton, linen, hemp, and blends
  • Builds from pale sky blue to deep navy through repeated dips
  • Can be overdyed with weld, fustic, madder, cochineal, or tannins for greens, purples, teals, greys, and complex layered shades

How much do I need?

As a rough guide:

  • 1–2 g per 100 g fiber: pale blues
  • 4–6 g per 100 g fiber: medium blues
  • 10–12 g+ per 100 g fiber: deep blues and navy, built with multiple dips

Final depth depends on your vat strength, fiber preparation, number of dips, oxidation time, and whether you are dyeing protein or cellulose fibers.

Important note

Indigo is not used like most natural dyes. You cannot simply simmer it with fabric. It needs a vat with an alkali and a reducer. For beginners, choose the complete indigo kit or follow our step-by-step indigo vat instructions.

New to indigo? Start with 50 g. It gives you enough material to learn the vat properly without running out halfway through.

Good read
Format: Kindle
The book has some good twists and turns, but truthfully I was so confused on some things. It didn't have a good flow for me personally. Not sure if it's due to typos or using him/her wrongly, but I thought Kelly was both a guy and a girl. Actually I still don't know, and it made me incredibly frustrated. It would refer to Kelley as him or he, and then again in another part of the story as her she and sister. On to the next book, I hope there is some clarity and a smoother flow. This is a slow burn, and I just don't know how much I care for the Alphas yet. Idk if I recommend.

the lies
Format: Kindle
This is amazing fast pace read that is full of plot twists and lies that keep getting bad. This is a story we’re a omega has been lied to by her mother and finds out that someone is slowing dieing. 3 alpha take the omega and feed her more lies so they can use her against her father so they can find their mate Kelly. This is a dark read and ends in a cliffhanger and so good.

Ends in a cliffhanger
Format: Kindle
Thankfully, the next book is already available. Roxy Collins is the queen of omegaverse slow burn. This particular series is omegaverse with wolf shifters. Thoroughly enjoyed this book! Lots of suspense and trying to figure out what is true and what's really going on. I loved it! Pretty spicy once the action starts. Heats are pretty much always spicy. There is a little bit of male interaction, but not full-on shmex. Definitely recommend.

Epic!!!!
Format: Kindle
Absolutely addicted from the first page. The twists and turns, world building and character development all come together for the perfect Omegaverse. And let's not forget that spice because knots are life and these are spectacular. Running for book #2 because that cliffhanger was torturous.
