Each player begins with a set of randomized goals that guide their path to victory. As players set out from their estate, they are limited to the coins they can carry, which they'll need to traverse the globe, recruit crew members, and acquire items that improve their odds of survival, enhance their abilities, and increase their efficiency on the map. However, spending too freely comes with risks, as players must ensure they have enough wealth to return to England with their precious specimens intact.

Turns in Botany are streamlined to minimize downtime and keep everyone engaged. Players will move across the map, develop their character, and experience the unfolding story of their rise to fame, all while maintaining a focus on efficiency. Points are earned by improving the quality of your garden, retrieving live specimens from around the world, and adding preserved flowers to your botanical press.
