This large rug was woven in the Caucausian Mountains region around 40 years ago. Typically, these Moldovan rugs were not considered as utilitarian but, rather, intended for use as as wall and floor decorations for special occasions such as weddings and funerals and a handwoven rug was considered to be a crucial part of a young woman's dowry.
