Watch Your Rice Cook, and Let It Whistle When It's Done

This is stovetop rice cooking made foolproof. A heatproof ceramic pot gives you the even, enveloping heat that produces glossy, separate grains, while Hario's signature heatproof glass lid lets you watch the whole thing happen, no lifting the lid and letting the steam out. Best of all, it whistles when the rice is ready, so there is no guessing and no clock-watching: bring it to the boil, wait for the whistle, rest, and fluff. No electricity, no non-stick coatings, just proper rice on the hob. This is the larger model, for 2 to 3 go.

Why Chefs Choose This

  • Even ceramic heat: a heatproof ceramic pot for glossy, evenly cooked grains
  • Watch it cook: Hario's heatproof glass lid lets you see the rice without lifting it
  • Whistles when ready: a built-in whistle signals the moment to cut the heat
  • No coatings, no power: pure stovetop cooking, easy to clean

How to Use

  • Fill: add washed rice and water to the pot
  • Heat: bring to the boil on a gas hob, watching through the glass
  • Wait for the whistle: when it whistles, turn off the heat
  • Rest and fluff: leave to steam, then fluff before serving

炊飯 — Cooking rice on the hob, the Hario way

Long before electric cookers, Japanese rice was cooked on the stove in a heavy pot, and many cooks still swear it tastes better that way: a fierce boil, a steady simmer, then a rest, all driven by even, radiant heat. The catch has always been knowing exactly when each stage is reached without lifting the lid. Hario, the celebrated Japanese heatproof-glass maker, solves it with a glass lid you can see through and a whistle that calls time for you. The pot itself is heatproof ceramic, which holds and spreads heat beautifully. It turns a skilled, fiddly job into something anyone can get right.

Is the pot made of glass?

No, and this is worth clearing up: the pot is heatproof ceramic, and it is the lid that is heatproof glass. The ceramic body gives the even, retained heat that cooks rice well, while the glass lid is Hario's clever touch, letting you watch the boil and the steam without breaking the seal. So you get the cooking performance of a ceramic donabe-style pot with the visibility of glass on top.

Product Details

Type 炊飯器 — Stovetop rice cooker, ceramic pot with glass lid and whistle
Brand / Model Hario, GNN-200B (Large)
Capacity 2–3 go (approx. 300–450g uncooked rice)
Materials Heatproof ceramic pot; heatproof glass lid; silicone grip
Dimensions W270 x D230 x H210mm
Heat source Gas / open flame (not induction)
Origin Made in Japan
How many people does it serve?

This larger model cooks 2 to 3 go of rice (roughly 300–450g uncooked), enough for around two to three people as a main rice portion, or more as a side. For one or two people, or where counter space is tight, the smaller Hario Rice Cooker, Small is the better fit.

Can I use it on induction?

No. It is a ceramic stovetop pot designed for a gas hob or open flame, not an induction hob, which needs a magnetic metal base. On gas it gives the even, radiant heat that cooks rice so well.

How do I clean it?

Because there is no non-stick coating, it cleans up simply with warm water; let the ceramic pot cool before washing to avoid thermal shock. The glass lid and ceramic pot are straightforward to keep clean by hand. Avoid sudden temperature changes (such as cold water on a hot pot) to protect the ceramic and glass.

The really work!
Bought these or a friend with severely dry cracked feet. The change was significant and immediate. They wore them around the house for a day and that night they could already feel the difference.

Fabulously bizarre and effective
These silicone socks have to be the strangest item I have ever ordered from Amazon. However strange they are, I was pleasantly surprised with them. My order came with two pairs, and I took one pair out to wash before use. I laughed at handling them then because they were a cross between hospital socks and leftover mannequin skin…trippy. The socks dried fast, so I put on foot lotion and put the socks on. The socks are beige skin tones that cover the entire foot up to the ankle, basically booties. The silicone is very soft and makes putting on and taking off the socks easy. They are also surprisingly easy to walk around in because the bottoms have grips, again, like hospital socks. I walked on tile, hardwood, and carpet with no slipping. The booties also stayed in place with no issues. I was concerned my feet would sweat, but that didn't happen. I was able to wear them for 3 hours without sweaty feet. When I took them off, my feet were a lot more soft than before or if I had used regular socks. For reference, my feet are not terrible, but the skin around my toes is dry and peeling from my picking(gross, I know). The socks I got are a size large, which worried me because they are big, but the site said for my shoe size (9) that's what I should order, and they were right. They are the perfect size and stretchy for room. I can't believe how cool and well-thought-out these socks are, on top of working. Honestly, these are among the top 20 favorite items I've ordered from Amazon. They may look incredibly strange, and they are, but they work wonders.

Works for foot psoraisis
Size: 2 pairs black L
Got these for work (service industry) to reduce issues with psoriasis and blisters while putting on 20k+ steps a day. Over time the wounds healed and I could work without so much pain. I now don't use them all the time like I used to, only when a new lesion or blister appears, too prevent a breakout. Tip: if you're not in full breakout, wear thick socks under these as a barrier to friction.

Work well but run small
Size: 1 pair black L
They do seem to run a bit small. I bought them for my bf but snagged them from him because I couldn’t resist! I’m about a W8/12 and they were just a little big but unlike others, I just put them on while sleeping and didn’t walk around with them. If you’re just planning on that, they did a great job at sloughing and moisturizing 😎
