A self-coined 'metaphor for the heart', The Dark Red Seed represents a direct reference to life - and death - itself. The duo, which also includes King Dude engineer Shawn Flemming, will now release it's debut album, Becomes Awake. The full-length follow-up to the group's 2017 debut EP, Stands with Death, a dark, dusty discourse on the departure and ultimate dissolution of life, Becomes Awake symbolizes a movement from darkness into light; finding balance through acceptance of one's own qualities of both the light and the dark; the good and the bad. The struggle of finding balance is never ending. While King Dude channels dark folk in a manner that fits along with former tour mate Chelsea Wolfe, The Dark Red Seed veer down a much heavier path. Standing equally in the tradition of dark folk and modern heavy psych, Larson notes that the three albums that most inspired Becomes Awake are Spiritualized' Ladies and Gentlemen We are Floating in Space, The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and No Quarter: Jimmy Page & Robert Plant Unledded. The resultant powerfully dark, rich sound of The Dark Red Seed carries an emotionally gripping weight that draws you in and refuses to let go. Striking cover art by Paul Romano (Mastodon, Dälek) furthers the album's potent allure. The instrumentation and scales on Becomes Awake are heavily inspired by Indian and Persian music as well as Roma music. Densely arranged with string, horn and percussion sections the album features contributions from musicians Kelly Pratt (LCD Soundsystem, War on Drugs, St Vincent) and Steve Nistor (Sparks, Marissa Nadler, Daniel Lanois). The harmonic, rhythmic and formal structures release a potent richness and depth of sound created by the collision of Eastern and Western music and the merging of tones specific to each. Another awesome read from Cheyenne Blue!
I loved this book! I wanted to read it as soon as I heard the premise. The idea of taking the chance to be tossed into who knows what setting, even with money involved, is an adventure I would never have the courage to do - but it makes for a fantastic and entertaining story. After winning a "life swap" competition, Hayley, a NYC short order cook and bar tender has to go to the Australian Outback as a jilleroo; talk about a fish out of water! She is mentored by Jenna, experienced ranch hand. The development of their relationship as well as Hayley's evolution as a jillaroo is so much fun to follow along. Add in a great cast of characters, some glitches in the whole life swap arrangement, the beautifully described setting and a hard earned happy ending, and you end up with another awesome read from Cheyenne!

I laughed, I cried and I swooned! can a story ask for more?
Cheyenne Blue has pulled together a most beautiful background for a delightful love story. The style of writing is skillfully crafted and lovingly brilliant, believable and drags emotions through the gamut of life. My heart is full and I am emotionally drained for the night! These characters are so fully realized and fit the austerity of the Australian Outback, the color and clarity is woven in every sense. Yes, I really loved this story.

Fact: You’ll go crackers for Switcheroo-Word
This story is chockablock full: life swap, fish out of water, Bronx to Queensland outback station life, and never-mind the dust, the heat or the flies. Just put on your Akubra cattleman hat, bring plenty of water with you, no need for all the modern trappings of life, and find your true heart’s desire and chosen family. Thank you Cheyenne Blue for this fantastic tale that focuses on what our heart truly needs to fulfilled.

Another great story by the talented Cheyenne Blue. To be honest, I did worry this was going to be a sapphic retelling of Crocodile Dundee, but it was far from it. Very enjoyable indeed.

Great story!
I loved this book. The storyline was so well written and different. I love how authors from other countries portray Americans and this was one of my favorites. I don't know anyone that says some of the things Hayley does outside of the 1980s or any New Yorker that is as nice as her but I loved her character. Jenna and Hayley were great together. The descriptions of the outback
and life on a ranch were so vivid. If you've never read Cheyenne Blue I recommend this book and all her others.
