The First Berserker: Khazan, the highly anticipated hardcore action RPG from developer Neople and publisher Nexon, launches on March 27, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Set in the universe of Dungeon Fighter Online (DNF), this challenging single-player experience follows the fallen hero Khazan on his quest for vengeance in a brutal, war-torn world.

A Legendary Hero's Fall and Redemption

Step into the boots of General Khazan, once celebrated as the ancestor of all Slayers and the hero who defeated Hismar the Berserk Dragon. After being falsely accused of treason and subjected to brutal torture, Khazan is exiled from the Pell Los Empire. Now possessed by the mysterious Blade Phantom, a spirit with connections to the underworld, Khazan embarks on a blood-soaked journey to reclaim his honor and exact revenge on those who betrayed him.

The game's narrative takes center stage with a cel-shaded anime art style and fully voiced dialogue, creating cinematic moments rarely seen in the soulslike genre. While the revenge plot drives the action forward, players will uncover deeper mysteries about Khazan's downfall and the chaos spreading throughout the realm.

Refined Combat System with Soulslike Depth

The First Berserker: Khazan features a combat system that will feel familiar to soulslike fans while introducing unique mechanics that set it apart:

·         Three Distinct Weapon Types: Choose between dual-wielded sword and axe, spear, or greatsword – each offering completely different playstyles with dedicated skill trees

·         Strategic Defense Options: Master perfect blocks, dodges, parries, and counterattacks to survive the game's punishing encounters

·         Stamina Management: Like the best soulslikes, combat revolves around smart stamina usage, with enemies entering vulnerable states when exhausted

·         Fortitude-Based Enemies: Special foes without stamina gauges require different tactical approaches, rewarding patience and precision

The game's boss battles are particularly noteworthy, featuring multi-phase encounters that will push players to utilize every combat mechanic at their disposal. These challenging fights require near-perfection but deliver immense satisfaction when conquered.

Progression and Exploration

While The First Berserker: Khazan features a more linear structure than some open-world soulslikes, it still rewards exploration with:

·         Hidden Paths and Secrets: Discover alternative routes containing powerful set items, crafting recipes, and power sources

·         Side Quests: Optional missions that may influence the game's ending and unlock crucial features like the Blacksmith

·         Skill Trees: Extensive progression systems for each weapon type, allowing players to customize Khazan to their preferred playstyle

·         New Game+: Continue your journey with increased difficulty after reaching the True Ending

Accessibility Options

After defeating the first boss Yetuga, players can choose between easy and normal difficulty levels. The easy mode enhances Khazan's overall stats throughout gameplay, making the experience more accessible while maintaining the core combat mechanics.

not bad
Format: Kindle
I loved the plot of this book. The characters just didn’t have a lot of depth. The connections and “love” just weren’t communicated very well in the writing. The author didn’t write the sweet psycho trope very well at all either. Lachlan was just a mess of a character.

A Beta Worth Rooting For
Format: Kindle
In Spare, Violet Fox flips the omegaverse on its head, giving us a Beta heroine determined to make her mark. Joining the Beta Trials to support her sick father, she's thrown into a pack that doesn't want her, especially the possessive Alphas. But here's the twist: their sweet Omega turns out to be her scent match. Cue the angst, forbidden tension, and a slow-burn romance that will make your heart ache in the best way. Violet Fox delivers an emotional, refreshing take on the genre, proving Betas aren't "spares." They're stars.

Beta, Alpha, Omega oh my!
Format: Kindle
Omegas are precious and given to Alphas & their packs... but the Betas want in too. To this end, the Beta government is rolling out its trial of assigning a Beta to each Alpha-Omega pack. But forcing a Beta into a pack where they are not wanted will not end well... Of course, no one expected the Omega to fall for the assigned Beta. Great read and cliffhanger

A familiar story, just with…..less.
Format: Kindle
So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.

Good start to a series
Format: Kindle
I delayed reading the series for reasons I don’t remember. But my TBR list is huge so I thought I’d take a shot of this and I was pleasantly surprised. I didn’t think the blurb about it was anything special. But it was a very good book. It took some interesting twists and turns. I am so glad the second book is already out. Because I would not have waited patiently. Very slow burn but good storyline. 🔥🔥/5
