Overview
CAN FD Performance and Serial Compatibility
The USR-CAN316 is an industrial-grade, DIN-rail-mount protocol converter designed for bidirectional communication between the CAN FD (Flexible Data-Rate) bus and RS485/RS232 serial interfaces . The device supports the CAN FD protocol, offering extremely fast transmission speeds (up to 5 Mbps) and increased data volume (up to 64 bytes in a single frame). It is fully backward compatible to the CAN 2.0A/2.0B standard , facilitating system migration and integration.
Modbus RTU gateway and advanced operating modes
The USR-CAN316 converter functions as a Modbus RTU Gateway , enabling CAN/CAN-FD data to be transmitted to Modbus RTU (Master/Slave) via RS485/RS232. It offers five flexible conversion modes , including transparent, standard, and Modbus protocol conversion. The device supports 32 software-configurable filter sets , allowing for precise traffic management within the CAN network.
Reliability and industrial power supply
The device provides high reliability thanks to a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C and EMC Level 3 protection . It features dual watchdog and two built-in 120Ω terminating resistors for the CAN bus. It is powered by a wide DC voltage of 9-36V with reverse polarity protection, and is DIN rail -mountable .
