The chair frames are made for us by a small workshop in El Salvador, and are finished in wicker by a family of artisans in Guatemala City. The wicker is harvested from willow trees in the mountainous Quiché region, dried, peeled and sorted for color and quality.
This design is inspired by Willy Guhl’s loop chair, a ribbon of thin concrete that can be seen through when it is in profile. The ottoman’s top duplicates the chair’s bottom curve so it can be tucked into its cavity when not in use, or for ease of shipping.
