Engineered for demanding industrial environments, the Vivotek Industrial 4xGE PoE + 2xGE UTP + 2xGE SFP Switch delivers reliable, high-performance networking with rugged durability. This modular, two-layer switch combines power over Ethernet capabilities with flexible uplink options, enabling seamless deployment of security cameras, wireless access points, and edge devices across factories, campuses, and harsh outdoor sites. With a substantial PoE budget, robust thermal tolerance, and comprehensive ruggedization features, it’s designed to keep mission-critical network devices powered and connected even in challenging conditions.

  • Rugged industrial performance: Built for extreme environments, this switch operates from -40°C to 75°C and includes surge protection to withstand electrical disturbances. The compact, rugged design is purpose-built for deployment in enclosures, harsh industrial spaces, and outdoor cabinets, ensuring consistent operation where standard switches would fail.
  • Flexible copper and fiber connectivity: The switch provides 6 copper Ethernet ports (4 PoE-enabled and 2 standard) for flexible device placement and power delivery, plus 2 SFP slots for 100/1000Base-X fiber uplinks. This combination supports both direct device connections and high-speed fiber links to your core network, enabling scalable, resilient topologies.
  • High PoE budget and intelligent device power: With a 120 W PoE budget across the PoE-capable ports, it can power multiple IP cameras, wireless APs, and other PoE devices simultaneously. This reduces the need for multiple power drops and simplifies installation, while maintaining performance to ensure reliable data transmission and continuous camera recording.
  • Layer 2 switching with modular design: The switch supports Layer 2 functionality and is designed to be modular, offering flexibility for expanding ports and features as your network grows. Its 2 SFP slots provide fiber-forward uplinks that minimize latency and maximize bandwidth between edge devices and the core network, even across long distances.
  • Compliance, warranty, and reliability: TAA-compliant for procurement in government and enterprise environments, paired with a 24-month limited warranty. The combination of industrial-grade construction, PoE efficiency, and robust protection mechanisms makes this switch a dependable backbone for security, access, and surveillance deployments in challenging settings.

how to install Vivotek Industrial 4xGE PoE + 2xGE UTP + 2xGE SFP Switch

  • Plan your layout: Determine which devices will connect to each PoE-capable copper port and identify the optimal locations for fiber uplinks using the 2 SFP slots. Ensure your enclosure provides adequate ventilation and accessibility for cable management and future maintenance.
  • Power connections: Connect the switch to a suitable power source as specified in the user manual. Verify that your power supply is adequate to support the 120 W PoE budget when all PoE devices are active.
  • Connect devices to copper ports: Attach IP cameras, wireless access points, and other PoE devices to the 4 PoE-enabled copper ports and the remaining copper ports as needed. Use shielded CAT6 or higher cabling suited for industrial environments to maximize reliability and reduce interference.
  • Configure fiber uplinks: Insert SFP modules into the 2 SFP slots and connect fiber cables to the uplink devices or core switch. If required, configure appropriate VLANs and link aggregation settings on the core network to optimize throughput and redundancy.
  • Initial testing: Power on the switch and connected devices. Verify link status on each port and confirm PoE power delivery to connected devices. Ensure fiber links are up and that traffic is flowing between edge devices and the core network at expected speeds.
  • Network policies and monitoring: If the switch supports management features, apply VLAN segmentation, QoS policies for video streams, and PoE scheduling if available. Set up monitoring alarms for port status, PoE usage, and thermal conditions to prevent outages in remote locations.
  • Documentation and labeling: Document port assignments, uplink roles, and device locations. Label cables clearly to simplify troubleshooting and future maintenance in industrial environments where accessibility may be limited.
  • Maintenance plan: Schedule periodic inspections to check for dust buildup, temperature consistency, and cable integrity. Replace or reseat SFP modules and fiber cables if link quality drops, and verify firmware updates from Vivotek or the approved vendor to maintain security and performance.

Frequently asked questions

What does the PoE budget mean for my installation?

The 120 W PoE budget indicates the total power available across the PoE-enabled copper ports. You can power multiple PoE devices, such as IP cameras and wireless access points, as long as their combined consumption does not exceed 120 W. This simplifies power planning and minimizes the need for separate power injectors or adapters.

What types of devices can I connect to the copper ports?

The 4 PoE-enabled copper ports can power PoE devices using IEEE 802.3af/at standards, while the remaining copper ports provide standard 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet connectivity for non-PoE devices. This configuration allows you to deploy both PoE devices and additional Ethernet endpoints on the same switch.

Can I use the SFP ports for fiber uplinks?

Yes. The switch includes 2 SFP slots that support 100/1000Base-X fiber connections. Using these slots, you can create high-speed uplinks to your core network, backhaul links to remote sites, or fiber-based connections to other switches for scalable, resilient network designs.

Is this switch suitable for outdoor or harsh environments?

Absolutely. The device is designed for industrial use with a wide operating temperature range (-40°C to 75°C) and surge protection, making it suitable for rugged environments such as factory floors, outdoor enclosures, and industrial cabinets where standard switches may struggle with temperature swings and electrical disturbances.

What maintenance or management features does it offer?

The Vivotek industrial switch supports Layer 2 switching capabilities and a modular design that accommodates expansion through SFP uplinks. Depending on the specific model and firmware, you may access basic management features for VLANs, QoS, and PoE control. For full management capabilities, refer to the official product documentation and firmware releases from Vivotek.

Would be better with longer cable and without the LED light.
I like that the install is very easy, non-permanent, and can be very quickly removed if needed. It fast charges and the magnets are strong (the reviews that say it doesn’t hold probably aren’t using a MagSafe case). That said I have two annoying issues: 1) There is a light that comes on when the car is turned on. If you don’t put your phone on the charger it will say on for a minute or two and then eventually turn off. 2) The included USB-C cable is too short. It only just barely reaches the outlet in the front bottom center console. It would be better if they had included a 6ft with a 90-deg connector to draw power from the back seat ports. 3) It doesn’t not include a charger. In all, the mount and charger are fine, but be prepared to spend an extra $20 on a longer cable and charger to make it all work.

Phone holder, not charger.
Nice plastic phone holder, works a lot better if you don’t have a phone case, it fits almost flushed. It doesn’t use “stickiness” to hold its self, just pressure from bottom phone, it holds nicely but has a little gap on the sides, it too much pressure is applied then Tesla screen starts showing pressure. The wire is small but reaches the under panel how ever, it does not fit flushed, will need to do some tinkering. I slide the wire under the charger where the phones go. Now the door can’t close but it can pass through. That charger is not fast but it works. Edit: nah, don’t get it. The charger doesn’t charge, it will charge them stop. It works like a phone holder…
