Comprising over four hundred narrations, it presents a detailed and intimate portrait of the Prophet’s physical appearance, character, habits, worship, and inner state. For centuries, scholars and students have returned to this work to know the Prophet ﷺ not only through law and instruction, but through closeness, love, and lived example.

The Shamail 2026 Online Class

Beginning January 21, 2026, IGP will be offering a complete, cover-to-cover study of the Shamāʾil in a structured, multi-month weekly live online course consisting of 20 sessions.

This complete study of al-Shamāʾil al-Muḥammadiyya will be taught by Shaykh Hamzah W. Maqbul.

Classes will begin on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at 1:00pm Eastern, which is 6:00pm London / 2:00am Kuala Lumpur & Singapore / 12:00pm Chicago & Dallas / 10:00am Los Angeles / 9:00pm Makkah / and 11:30pm Delhi.

All sessions will be recorded and made available to registered students.

What this course offers

Through a guided, close reading of the Shamāʾil, students can expect:

• A deep and grounded understanding of the character, conduct, and personal qualities of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ
• Insight into why knowing the Prophet ﷺ is central to understanding every aspect of Islam
• A richer appreciation of the worldview of the Companions رضي الله عنهم and the early generations

Understanding the Shamāʾil is not supplementary to the religion. It is foundational. To know the Messenger ﷺ is to understand the message he carried, and to encounter Islam not as abstraction, but as lived reality.

Course format

This is a live course held via Zoom. Sessions are designed to be reflective and accessible, while remaining rooted in traditional scholarship. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions, and all enrolled participants will receive access to the full recording archive.

This course is an invitation to spend sustained time with the description of the Prophet ﷺ, to read slowly, to listen carefully, and to allow knowledge to settle in the heart.
