A memoir of startling candor, My Greatest Save is a story of triumph, tragedy, and redemption from a woman who has broken through barriers her entire life.
Briana Scurry was a pioneer on the U.S. Women’s National Team. She won gold in Atlanta in 1996, the first time women’s soccer was ever played in the Olympics. She was a key part of the fabled “99ers,” making an epic save in the decisive penalty-kick shootout in the final.
Scurry captured her second Olympic gold in 2004, cementing her status as one of the premier players in the world. She was the only Black player on the team, and she was also the first player to be openly gay. It was a singularly amazing ride, one that Scurry handled with her trademark generosity and class—qualities that made her one of the most popular players ever to wear a U.S. jersey.
But Scurry’s storybook career ended in 2010 when a knee to the head left her with severe head trauma. She was labeled “temporarily totally disabled,” and the reality was even worse. She spiraled into depression, debt, and endured such pain that she closed out her closest friends and soccer soulmates. She pawned her gold medals. She walked to the edge of a waterfall and contemplated suicide.
It seemed like the only way out until Scurry made her greatest save of all.

Spikey Balls Outlast Both Dogs!

Our two golden-doodles have destroyed many of the chew toys I foolishly invested in. I used to measure their lifespan and durability in a matter of minutes. Shredding toys seemed their delight and specialty. Squeakers were often attacked with spectacular ferocity as if they were tests of canine ingenuity to find ways to get to, swallow, or otherwise destroy the squeaker mechanism. That is until they met these spikey dog balls with attitude. Our girls delight in chasing them down when thrown and have wearied themselves trying to figure out a way to chew through them. These balls have broken the household record for longevity. They've taken a licken and continue to squeak and delight our girls. Which delights us! Safe, great value for the money, cute, and the color has proven tough through heat, rain, lots of aggressive chewing.

Immediately rolled up under the sofa!

I was looking for toys that were durable, that our GSD puppy would like, and that would specifically NOT roll under the sofa every time he swatted at it because I’m tired of moving the couch every 5 minutes to retrieve another toy. This toy went under the couch within 5 minutes of opening the package.
He doesn’t seem to enjoy playing with it as much as he does a regular tennis ball, it’s easier to throw far outside IMO (my husband doesn’t notice a difference). It’s not hard or soft, it’s kind of a combination of both with the knobby bumps on the outside. I speculate the bumps are part of what he doesn’t enjoy playing with. He is able to pick it up and carry it easy enough and when he does it squishes just enough for him to carry it, he’s 5 months old by the way. But the bottom line is this will likely become yet another “outside toy” in the sea of outside toys because if not I’ll be constantly fishing it out from under the couch!

Great find

I am actually impressed with these balls. Our dog is a very heavy chewer and literally can tear every toy up within a few minutes. I usually buy tennis looking balls from PetSmart that are a little bigger than an actual tennis ball that has a squeaker and they don't last long. After he runs around squeaking them for about 20 minutes he goes in destruction mode. He loves the squeaker but loves to tear the felt off then the ball is destroyed next. They are at least cheap but not really if he goes them so fast. I have to ration them out. I decided to give these balls a try after reading another review that they are good for heavy chewers. He has been playing with these balls for weeks and they are still going strong. None of them have been destroyed. Granted he would prefer the felt ones but my wallet prefers balls that last.

loud but in a good way

Love these crazy loud squeeky balls. I bought two a bit too big but the dogs still love them. Yes, they will drive you insane but the dogs love them so much it's worth it watching the pups enjoy the balls. They are strong and safe as long as they aren't too small for your dogs mouth.

Great for aggressive chewers - Great for clean teeth
I never thought these would stand up to my 60lb pittie puppy's chewing. But they are far and away her favorite toy and are holding up beautifully. One squeaker insert bit the dust -- which is not bad since it gives us one silent one. But otherwise they are holding up superbly to her powerful jaws. We have tried a lot of toys. So far, all the "for aggressive chewers" toys have been torn apart within days if we are lucky -- usually it's minutes. But these balls show little-to-no sign of wear. The squeakers are very loud which she loves can get a bit tiresome. So, as I mentioned, having one silent one is a great option. And she really likes the texture. She loves them so much, we bought a second set and will probably buy a third to have in reserve. (We are realistic and don't expect them to last forever.) All I have to say is "where's spiky ball" and she instantly stops what she is doing and goes on the hunt. A great buy!! (NOTE: It's been almost three months and one is just beginning to show some damage. Given that she plays with them non-stop, they've showed amazing durability. And everyone comments on how clean and beautiful her teeth are. I don't brush them or give her dental treats. So it has to be these balls!!)
