Earvin "Magic" Johnson is one of the NBA's greatest point guards of all time and was an integral part of the Lakers dynasty throughout the 1980s. Over the course of his 13-year career, Johnson raised the NBA Championship five times. After being drafted first overall in 1979, Magic won the NBA Championship and NBA Finals MVP in his rookie campaign. Although his career was unfortunately cut short by illness after contracting HIV, his career statistics and laundry list of accolades are just short of unbelievable. Having been voted the greatest NBA point guard of all time by ESPN in 2007, Johnson's accolades certainly support that. Throughout the course of his illustrious, albeit shortened career, Magic would become a 5x NBA Champion (1980, 1982, 1985, 1987, 1988), 3x NBA Finals MVP (1980, 1982, 1987), 3x NBA MVP (1987, 1989, 1990), 12x NBA All-Star, 2x NBA All-Star Game MVP (1990, 1992), 9x All-NBA First Team, 4x NBA Assists Leader (1983, 1984, 1986, 1987), 2x NBA Steals Leader (1981, 1982), and was awarded the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award for outstanding service and dedication to the community. Johnson was also a member of the legendary "Dream Team" that won Olympic gold at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona and retired as the NBA's all-time leader in assists. Magic's outstanding career was capped off with his induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002.
