Big Sable PointBig Sable Point Lighthouse, located on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan, was originally named Grande Pointe au Sable by French explorers and traders. First lit in 1867, this tall, black and white tower was constructed using Cream City Brick, but exposure to the elements caused severe deterioration. To protect the structure, the lighthouse was encased in boiler plate in 1900, giving it the distinctive striped appearance seen today. Standing 112 feet
