　本作品は、「随身庭騎絵巻」の室町時代（1336年 – 1573年）に制作された最古写本（模本）断簡であり、図中には秦兼清（はた かねきち）および秦兼任（はた かねとう）の随身が描かれています。

　現存する「随身庭騎絵巻」の原本（鎌倉時代、国宝、大倉集古館蔵）は日本美術史上の傑作として知られていますが、その写本の多くは江戸時代に制作されています。本品は室町時代に遡ると考えられ、現存する「随身庭騎図」の写本として最古の例と位置付けられています。

装飾写本としての美しさとともに、後世に伝えられた写本の歴史的意義を示す貴重な資料であり、日本中世絵巻物の流布と受容の一端を示しています。

　This artwork is a fragment from an illuminated manuscript of “ZUISHINTEIKI” (Illustrated Scroll of Imperial Guards), produced during the Muromachi period (1336 – 1573) in Japan. The figures depicted are Kanekichi Hata and Kaneto Hata, two distinguished Imperial Guards.

　The original “ZUISHINTEIKI” from the Kamakura period (1185 – 1333), currently housed at the Okura Shukokan Museum and designated as a National Treasure of Japan, is celebrated as a masterpiece of Japanese illustrated scrolls. While many reproductions were made during the Edo period (1603 – 1868), this particular fragment is believed to be an earlier copy from the Muromachi period, making it the oldest known surviving reproduction of the work.
