About the Welsh Feathers
Legend tells that the emblem originated during the Hundred Years War, when the Black Prince (1330–1376), then Prince of Wales, took the helmet of the defeated John I of Bohemia at the Battle of Crécy. The helmet bore a plume of ostrich feathers, which later became associated with the Prince’s title and remains one of the most recognised Welsh emblems today.
