The Buslink CipherShield CSE8TSDRG2 DAS Storage System is a high-performance, enterprise-grade direct-attached storage solution designed for professionals who require fast, secure, and scalable data access. Built around a robust 8-bay chassis, this system combines a USB 3.1 Gen 2 host interface with hardware-accelerated encryption to deliver seamless transfers, reliable backups, and mission-critical data protection. Whether you’re editing 4K video, managing high-resolution photo libraries, or archiving large datasets, CipherShield provides a dependable foundation that keeps workflows efficient while safeguarding sensitive information. Its sleek desktop footprint fits neatly into studios, editing suites, or IT environments, offering easily swappable drives, flexible RAID configurations, and comprehensive management tools that simplify administration for users of all levels.

  • Ultra-fast USB 3.1 Gen 2 interface (up to 10 Gbps): Experience rapid file transfers and snap-through backups thanks to the higher bandwidth of the latest USB standard. This enables you to move large raw video files, high-resolution imagery, and full project archives with ease, dramatically reducing prep times and idle waits during critical workflows.
  • Hardware encryption with CipherShield: Protect data at rest with built-in AES-256 hardware encryption. CipherShield ensures that sensitive client information, proprietary footage, and confidential project materials remain inaccessible to unauthorized users, even if the drive is removed from the system. Security features are designed to meet industry standards while maintaining performance for demanding workloads.
  • 8 hot-swappable drive bays for flexible capacity: The eight bays support a mix of 3.5" SATA HDDs and 2.5" SATA SSDs, allowing you to optimize storage density, speed, and cost. Hot-swapping enables rapid maintenance and upgrades without downtime, so you can scale capacity as your data grows or reconfigure the array on the fly to meet project requirements.
  • Configurable RAID and data protection: Create tailored storage configurations with multi-RAID support (RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10) plus JBOD. This versatility lets you balance performance and redundancy—critical for editors, photographers, and IT administrators who demand both speed and data integrity in a single DAS solution.

How to install Buslink CipherShield CSE8TSDRG2 DAS Storage System

Installing the CipherShield CSE8TSDRG2 DAS Storage System is a straightforward process designed to minimize downtime and get you up and running quickly. Begin by choosing a stable surface with adequate ventilation for the unit. Ensure you have compatible drives ready to install in the eight bays, and a USB-C cable that supports USB 3.1 Gen 2 to connect the DAS to your computer. After preparing the drives, follow these steps:

Step 1: Insert your SATA hard disk drives or SATA solid-state drives into the eight hot-swappable bays. Make sure each drive is properly seated and locked in place to prevent accidental disconnections during operation. If you plan a mixed HDD/SSD configuration, arrange them according to your performance and capacity goals.

Step 2: Connect the DAS to your host computer using a USB 3.1 Gen 2 USB-C cable. Confirm a secure connection and verify that the enclosure is receiving power from its external supply. The device should power on and initialize the internal controllers.

Step 3: Power on the unit and wait for the system to complete its initialization. Depending on the drive configuration, there may be a brief setup period as the RAID controller recognizes the installed drives and begins the initial array build. Use the built-in indicators to verify drive activity and status dashboards.

Step 4: Install the CipherShield management software on your computer, or launch the web-based console if provided. Use the software to configure your preferred RAID level, encryption settings, and user access policies. During this stage, you can designate a volume name, establish user authentication, and enable hardware encryption for data at rest.

Step 5: Create your logical volumes and mount them on your operating system. For macOS and Windows, this typically involves recognizing the new storage device in Disk Utility or Disk Management, formatting the volumes if necessary, and assigning drive letters or mount points. Confirm that encryption is active and verify the transfer speeds with a test file to ensure the system meets your performance expectations.

Step 6: With RAID, you may want to run a consistency check or parity verification depending on your RAID type. Schedule routine health checks to monitor drive SMART data, temperature, and fan speeds if applicable. Regular maintenance helps prevent unexpected failures and preserves data integrity.

Step 7: Integrate the DAS into your data workflow. Set up backups, media ingest pipelines, or archival processes as needed. If you require multi-user access, configure permissions and access controls within the management software to ensure that only authorized personnel can read or write to the encrypted storage.

Frequently asked questions

Q: What is CipherShield and what protection does it provide?
A: CipherShield is Buslink’s hardware-based encryption technology that protects data at rest using AES-256 encryption. The encryption keys are managed within the device, providing strong security without sacrificing performance. This is ideal for professionals handling sensitive footage, client data, or proprietary information.

Q: How many drives can I install and what types are supported?
A: The CipherShield CSE8TSDRG2 DAS Storage System offers eight hot-swappable bays designed for 3.5" SATA HDDs and 2.5" SATA SSDs. This configuration allows you to maximize capacity or performance by mixing drive types according to your needs.

Q: Which RAID levels are available and how do I choose?
A: The system supports multiple RAID configurations, including RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, and 10, plus JBOD. RAID choice depends on your priorities: RAID 0 for speed, RAID 1/10 for redundancy, RAID 5/6 for a balance of capacity and protection. Use the management software to select the appropriate level for your workload and to monitor drive health.

Q: Is this DAS compatible with Windows, macOS, and Linux?
A: Yes. The CipherShield DAS is designed to work across major operating systems, with drivers or native support typically available. After installation and RAID setup, volumes should mount on Windows, macOS, or Linux, and encryption will remain active as configured.

8.5 sound out of the box! (Want bespoke configs? Sorry.) Great Value, Easy Setup
Style: AVR-X1800H
Excellent unit. Off the shelf sound is very nice, but every room is different, so a bit of tweaking is usually required. Accessing the EQ settings takes a bit of sleuthing and the use of its app... which is subpar. The app interface can only be explained as designed by people who must not actually use it. Still, a wonderful machine at a fair price. I run in ECO mode and it powers my 35x47 room with plenty of power to spare and NEVER gets hot. I am running Infinity Reference speakers and a Klipsch sub in a 7.1 config. I highly recommend the use of the included Audyssey calibration microphone! My prior experience with Yamaha YPAO left me wondering what was the point. This time with the Denon, it set up the speakers, (i'm embarrassed to say) better than I did on my own. (To be fair, I'm sure Yamaha has improved its YPAO in the decade since my prior purchase) Bottom line. If you want maximum flexibility on EQ. Shop a different solution. However, If you want quality sound with 4K and up to and including ATMOS processing, with minimal tweaking, or just want to unbox and play, this is a wonderful unit at a very fair price.

Does well for my needs
Style: AVR-X1800H
I got this to replace a Sony head unit that was starting to fail after 10 or so years of use. This one doesn’t have the same power output, but I use Bose speakers. Bose is fairly low wattage for the most part so no problem there. Setup was fine. My only complaint is that center channel only dialog is too quiet. I need to adjust that. Everything else is great. I don’t care about Internet connectivity, but it has that if you want it. I’m very happy so far with this unit.

Nice AVR
Style: AVR-X1800H
Refurbished and looking like brand new. One small scratch on the side. It went in a cabinet and it's hidden. All paperwork seemed to be there. If I didn't know it looks like factory sealed . I've got an older Denon. Just wanted to move up to 7.2. Audyssey recognize a second sub. But neither did my older on. No problem with that though. Just FYI. After the original setup and minor tweaking it sounds fantastic for me. I haven't had it but a few days and I hope I get many years of enjoyment from this
