A dramatic and beautifully executed antique brooch dating (circa 1860-1880), featuring a boldly sculpted snake crafted in 14k bloomed gold, set with vivid demantoid garnet eyes. Serpent motifs were highly significant in Victorian jewelry, symbolizing eternity, protection, wisdom, and enduring love, and were often chosen for deeply personal and sentimental pieces. The demantoid garnets—prized for their lively brilliance and rich green hue—lend striking expression and vitality to the serpent’s gaze.
The brooch displays substantial scale and confident craftsmanship, with carefully modeled curves that emphasize the snake’s coiled form and muscular movement. On the reverse, the piece bears the engraved inscription “MS to CBW,” suggesting a personal presentation or commemorative exchange, adding an additional layer of historical and emotional interest.
The brooch measures approximately 1.75 inches by 2.3 inches wide and weighs an impressive 23.67 grams, giving it a commanding yet elegant presence when worn. The gold has been professionally verified using XRF (X-ray fluorescence) analysis and traditional jeweler’s testing, confirming its 14k composition. In great antique condition, this brooch is a remarkable example of mid-Victorian serpent jewelry, ideal for collectors drawn to symbolism, exceptional materials, and boldly expressive 19th-century design.

It’s cute but
Color: 2 Pack
It supposedly lasts 3-4 months but mine didn’t even last 3 weeks before getting moldy and smelly .

Great primer to 2500 years of thought
Format: Kindle
The book is on James Mattis’ short list of military officer readings. 150 insightful pages with plenty of references for future exploration.
