Upgrade your industrial data workflows with a reliable, plug‑and‑play USB to isolated serial interface. The USB To Isolated Serial 2 Port RS-422/485 with Terminal Block from B+B SmartWorx is engineered to connect RS-422 and RS-485 devices directly to a PC or USB-enabled system while delivering robust galvanic isolation. Designed for demanding environments, this 2‑port adapter protects sensitive equipment and control networks from voltage spikes, ground loops, and noise, enabling stable, long‑term operation in automation, data acquisition, energy management, and instrumentation applications. With two independent channels, flexible 2‑wire RS-422 and 4‑wire RS-485 operation, and a compact, rugged form factor, it is ideal for multi‑device architectures, multi‑drop networks, and remote sensing setups that require reliable serial communications over USB.

The device combines universal USB connectivity with the reliability of industrial serial signaling. It is designed to minimize downtime and simplify integration by offering straightforward driver support, stable COM port emulation, and flexible wiring options. Whether you are integrating legacy equipment into modern PCs, linking distributed sensors to a central controller, or expanding a test bench with additional serial ports, this adapter provides a seamless bridge between USB hosts and RS-422/RS-485 networks. The combination of galvanic isolation and configurable signaling makes it a versatile choice for OEMs, system integrators, and technicians who value data integrity and protection from transient electrical disturbances.

Key to its appeal is the built‑in terminal block for each channel, which gives you a clean, secure connection point for your RS-422/RS-485 wires. The terminal block layout supports two and four-wire configurations, allowing straightforward adaptation to point‑to‑point or multi‑drop network topologies. The isolation barrier—designed to withstand surprising voltage transients—minimizes the risk of ground loops and cross‑circuit interference, enabling reliable operation even in environments with shared grounds or noisy power supplies. In addition to robust electrical protection, the adapter is typically USB bus-powered, removing the need for an external power source and reducing cable clutter on crowded workstations and industrial racks.

Performance and compatibility are central to the product’s value proposition. The adapter supports both RS-422 (full‑duplex) and RS-485 (half‑duplex or full‑duplex depending on configuration) communications, giving you the flexibility to communicate with a wide range of devices—from programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to motor controllers, sensors, meters, and test equipment. Data integrity is preserved through robust signaling standards, while the USB interface provides convenient plug‑and‑play deployment and broad operating system support. The device is engineered for easy integration into existing systems, with driver support designed to appear as standard COM ports to software, enabling you to leverage your current software tools without extensive rework.

For engineers and technicians, the value proposition centers on reliability, ease of use, and protection. The galvanic isolation between the USB host and the RS‑422/RS‑485 side reduces the risk of damaging sensitive computer hardware or control networks during voltage transients and ground potential differences. This is particularly important in industrial environments where equipment is powered from different circuits or where long cable runs can introduce ground noise. The 2‑port design also reduces the need for multiple adapters, streamlining installation in compact equipment cabinets, control panels, and machine dashboards. In practice, users gain a robust serial bridge that maintains stable connections across a range of temperatures and electrical conditions, supporting continuous data logging, equipment monitoring, and remote control tasks.

Whether you are deploying in a laboratory, factory floor, or field site, you’ll appreciate the practical features that simplify setup, testing, and ongoing operation. The device supports hot-swapping through USB, allowing you to connect or disconnect without rebooting the host system in many cases. The included documentation and driver packages typically cover common operating systems, enabling rapid adoption across Windows, Linux, and macOS environments. For teams managing multiple devices, the consistent, hardware‑level isolation and standardized signaling across channels help maintain uniform behavior across a fleet of serial instruments, even when connected to diverse vendors’ equipment.

How to install USB To Isolated Serial 2 Port RS-422/485 W/Terminal Block

Getting started is quick and straightforward. This USB to isolated serial adapter is designed to disappear into your workflow with minimal setup, so you can start communicating with RS‑422/RS‑485 instruments almost immediately after unboxing.

  • Connect the USB cable from the adapter to an available USB port on your computer or embedded system. Ensure the host has sufficient power and is running a supported operating system.
  • Power on the host and allow the system to recognize the device. In most cases, the driver will install automatically via the operating system’s driver repository or through an included driver package.
  • If prompted, install the driver software and follow the on‑screen instructions. Some systems may require you to point to a driver file location or use a software update utility.
  • Open your device manager or equivalent system utility to verify that two virtual COM ports or an equivalent serial interface is created, corresponding to the two RS‑422/RS‑485 channels.
  • Wiring: Connect your RS‑422/RS‑485 devices to the appropriate terminal blocks on each channel, selecting 2‑wire RS‑422 or 4‑wire RS‑485 operation as required by your network. Observe proper polarity and termination if your network requires it.
  • Configure your software: Set the correct COM port, baud rate, data bits, parity, and stop bits according to your device’s specification. For multi‑drop RS‑485 networks, ensure your master device controls the bus with proper DE/RE signaling if not managed automatically by the host software.
  • Test the link: Use a loopback test or communicate with a known good instrument to verify data transmission and reception. If you encounter errors, double‑check wiring, termination, and port settings, and confirm that the host software is addressing the correct COM port.
  • Observation: Monitor device LEDs for power and activity indicators to confirm channel activity and quickly diagnose connection issues.

Tips for best results:

  • Keep RS‑422/RS‑485 wiring away from high‑voltage cables to minimize EMI. Use shielded twisted‑pair cables where possible and terminate long runs appropriately to prevent reflections.
  • Properly configure termination resistors and biasing on your RS‑485 network to ensure stable idle states and reliable multi‑node communication.
  • Document each channel’s wiring and settings, especially in systems with multiple adapters, to simplify maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • If you run into driver issues, check for firmware or driver updates from the manufacturer’s support page and verify compatibility with your operating system version.

Fun for dogs
Color: Green/Alligator, Size: Small
Smaller than I expected, but the two little dogs love it! They love shaking it, making it squeak, tugging it against each other & chasing it when I throw it to fetch. They often sleep laying on it.

WEIRD feature - requires a water bottle
Color: Cow, Size: Large
Cute, but buyer beware. Maybe the description said this, but who would think to read for this.... You have to insert an empty bottle (like an old water bottle) for it to make the crinkle noise. There is a velcro spot at the base where you can open it and insert the water bottle for the noise factor and your dogs entertainment. I've yet to do that, but feel like my dog is gonna figure out the velcro and get the bottle out in no time. Seems like a waste of money. I could just give her an empty water bottle without the toy for free.

Super Sturdy with hours of fun.
Color: Wild Duck, Hare, Squirrel & Alligator, Size: Small
I got the small ones that you cannot put a water bottle in. These toys have held up way better than expected. I am dog sitting a very rough with toys dog named Chunk. He tears up ever. Single. Toy my dog (Ted) has. I bought new ones just for chunk. These appealed to me with the no stuffing, They were cheaper, and have a squeaker. Everything chunk needed. They arrived on time and I thought I wasted my money. They were super soft, like too soft. They felt flimsy and weak. Like 5 minutes with chunk and they be dead. 2 hours with my dog and they would have a rip. So far 2 of them (I set two out) have lasted the whole weekend. The bunny looks very rough and disgusting, but no rips, the squeakers still work, and no random fluff everywhere. I am going to wash the bunny once chunk leaves. My very careful doggo Ted loves them too. He throws them up in the air and catches them, plays tug of war with them, and no rips. They are super sturdy. He can’t wait until Chunk leaves (chunk is 2 and Ted is 12-13) so he can play with them.
