Background
Phospho-Rb (Ser807/811) protein refers to the phosphorylated form of the retinoblastoma protein (Rb) at serine residues 807 and 811. The retinoblastoma protein is a crucial tumor suppressor that plays a pivotal role in regulating cell cycle progression, particularly in controlling the transition from the G1 to S phase. When phosphorylated at Ser807/811, Rb undergoes a conformational change that allows it to release the transcription factor E2F, which in turn promotes cell cycle progression. This phosphorylation is mainly mediated by cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) such as CDK4 and CDK6, and it is tightly regulated to ensure proper cell cycle control. Abnormal phosphorylation of Rb at these sites is often associated with various cancers, highlighting its significance in maintaining genomic stability and preventing uncontrolled cell proliferation.
