An acclaimed history of the Vikings and The Times and Sunday Times History Book of the Year

The 'Viking Age' is traditionally held to begin in June 793 when Scandinavian raiders attacked the monastery of Lindisfarne in Northumbria, and to end in September 1066, when King Harald Hardrada of Norway died leading the charge against the English line at the Battle of Stamford Bridge. This book, the most wide-ranging and comprehensive assessment of the current state of our knowledge, takes a refreshingly different view. It shows that the Viking expansion began generations before the Lindisfarne raid, and traces Scandinavian history back centuries further to see how these people came to be who they were. The narrative ranges across the whole of the Viking diaspora, from Vinland on the eastern American seaboard to Constantinople and Uzbekistan, with contacts as far away as China. Neil Price takes us inside the Norse mind and spirit-world, and across their borders of identity and gender, to reveal startlingly different Vikings to the barbarian marauders of stereotype. He cuts through centuries of received wisdom to try to see the Vikings as they saw themselves - descendants of the first human couple, the Children of Ash and Elm.

Surprisingly good shirt for the price
Fit Type: Regular Fit, Color: White, Size: XX-Large
I’m generally pleased with my purchase. I got a 2XL because the website it would fit my neck. Around the waist it fit similar to Amazon Essentials work shirts (like mechanics use which I find comfortable). It was snug around the waist when sitting, but I can’t complain because I have a belly. I did find the neck snug when buttoning the top button so it means the neck is 18 or 18.5 and I wear a 19/19.5 to have 1-2 fingers space in the collar. The shirt is surprisingly thick like Amazon’s work shirts, much thicker than other dress shirts from another brand. And I am pleased that this shirt has button holes like other Amazon shirts does, all vertical button holes except the last one at the bottom which is horizontal. That feature keeps the shirt from unbuttoning itself during daily movement at the office. A very nice feature! I was a little disappointed in how it was packaged however but I have to press and wash it anyway.

Comparable to high end mens shops!
Fit Type: Regular Fit, Color: Blue, Size: Large
Beautiful, heavy blue Oxford comparable to upper end mens store at 75% less! Full cut, great for casual wear or sending out for professional starching. Downside, no pocket, but I had mine monogramed wear the pocket would be and it looks like an expensive dress shirt. I bought more (with pockets) in blue & white

Heavier fabric, very durable
Fit Type: Regular Fit, Color: Grey, Size: Large
3 stars. Pretty nice shirt but the fabric is a bit firmer than i like. I iron it when i usually wear it so that it looks half decent since wrinkle resistance is low or poor. I usually have to use a higher setting on the fabric since the material is thick making it alot heavier. Overall great for the lower end cost, anything that beats it would probably be double the price. I work in a cubicle so this works well for me, a simple shirt, with a simple color.
