Bush dyed textiles are hand dyed on communities across the Groote Eylandt Archipelago.

Anindilyakwa women hold ancient knowledge of their country. Colours are  natural dyes from native plants and discarded metal objects found on country. 

The dying process begins with a bush trip that draws on traditional knowledge to find and collect roots, leaves, bark and berries that have always been used in dyeing practices of their ancestor's. 

The women carefully design each garment, binding each piece with leaves and found objects. Once the dying process is over the textiles are transformed and reflect the unique landscape of Anindilyakwa country, with no two being the same. 

We make every effort to ensure colours display accurately online, however colours do vary.
