Experience studio-grade precision with the Electro-Voice ND66, a premium wired condenser microphone built around a high-performance small-diaphragm element. Crafted to deliver clean, crisp, and highly detailed sound, the ND66 excels at translating transient information with remarkable clarity. Its self-biased condenser core is optimized for attack and nuance, making it a superb choice for capturing percussive hits, fast transients, and the natural shimmer of stringed instruments. Whether you’re tracking drums, cymbals, acoustic guitars, pianos, or orchestral pieces, the ND66 brings out subtle details that help performances sit vividly in a mix.

  • Premium small-diaphragm condenser element paired with a self-biased design to deliver vivid transient detail and accurate articulation across the frequency spectrum.
  • Clean, crisp, and detailed condenser sound perfect for percussive and stringed instruments, overheads, and close-miking applications that demand precise transient capture.
  • Easy mic placement with a stable lock-in feel, ensuring repeatable positioning during takes and performances on both studio desks and live setups.
  • Versatile, reliable performance that adapts to a wide range of recording environments—from home studios to professional facilities—without coloring or muddying the signal.
  • Rugged, compact design optimized for instrument miking, quick setups, and consistency across sessions, helping engineers focus on performance rather than mic placement.

Technical Details of Electro-Voice ND66

  • Type: Wired condenser microphone
  • Diaphragm: Small-diaphragm condenser element
  • Polar pattern: Cardioid
  • Frequency response: Broad, enabling detailed capture from foundational lows to shimmering highs
  • Impedance: Low output impedance for clean transmission through typical mic preamps
  • Power requirement: 48V phantom power
  • Connector: XLR for balanced, noise-resistant connection
  • Applications: Instrument miking for percussion, strings, overheads, and other sources requiring accurate transient detail

How to install Electro-Voice ND66

To get the best results from the Electro-Voice ND66, follow these straightforward steps. Start with a clean signal path and proper gain staging to preserve the microphone’s detailed response while avoiding clipping or noise.

Step 1 — Mount and position: Attach the ND66 to a stable mic stand or boom using a suitable clip or mounting hardware. Position the microphone at the desired distance and angle relative to the sound source. For percussion and strings, closer placement may emphasize presence and attack; for overheads or ambient capture, a slightly broader spread can yield a balanced image.

Step 2 — Cable and power: Connect a balanced XLR cable from the ND66 to a microphone preamp or audio interface. Ensure the preamp is powered and set to provide 48V phantom power, as this condenser microphone relies on phantom power to operate accurately.

Step 3 — Signal chain and gain: Set a conservative starting gain on the preamp. Incrementally increase until the signal is strong and clean without reaching clipping. If needed, apply a gentle high-pass filter to reduce low-end rumble or proximity effect when recording close-miked sources.

Step 4 — Acoustic treatment and isolation: In imperfect rooms, use basic acoustic treatment and/or a reflection shield to control reflections that can color the capture. A pop filter is optional but can help with plosive-heavy sources if you are recording vocals or close-miked spoken word setups.

Step 5 — Fine-tuning and monitoring: Listen critically through studio monitors or headphones. Make minor micro-adjustments to mic distance and angle to dial in the most natural balance for the instrument. Record a short test take, review the transient detail, and adjust positioning or preamp gain as needed to preserve the articulation the ND66 excels at conveying.

Frequently asked questions

  • What makes the Electro-Voice ND66 different from other small-diaphragm condensers? The ND66 combines a premium small-diaphragm element with a self-biased design that emphasizes transient accuracy and crisp detail. It’s engineered to preserve the natural attack of percussive sources while maintaining the brightness and airiness often sought after in stringed instrument miking and overhead applications.
  • Is phantom power required? Yes. As a condenser microphone, the ND66 requires 48V phantom power supplied by a compatible mic preamp or interface to operate correctly.
  • What sources are ideal for the ND66? It excels at instrument miking—especially drums (overheads and cymbals), acoustic guitars, pianos, and stringed instruments—as well as close-miking sources where fast transients and detailed articulation are desired.
  • Can I use the ND66 for vocals? While the ND66 is optimized for instruments and detailed transient capture, it can be used for vocal work in the right context. For many vocal applications, distance and room characteristics will determine whether the ND66 delivers the most natural vocal presence. Consider experimenting with placement to achieve a flattering balance.
  • How should I care for the ND66? Handle the microphone with care, store it in a protective case when not in use, and avoid exposing it to moisture or extreme temperatures. Use a windscreen or pop filter when recording plosive-rich sources to preserve capsule integrity over time.

Fun with a late blooming omega
Format: Kindle
I like this book. The story is fun, cute, and sexy. There's just a little drama, some excellent, steamy scenes, and a fairly good relationship building storyline. I especially like how all the main characters are a bit older than the usual 20 somethings I tend to see in this kind of book. Having said that, I wish there were more descriptions of the places, as well as the food in the fancy restaurant. I enjoyed the cocktails at the club, so I missed that kind of detail when Gray took Madison on a dinner date. I also wish there had been more interaction between Lucas and Madison, and Lucas and Rian. It felt a bit lopsided, with a focus on Rian, Madison, and Gray. I wish it had been proofread - there are a lot of typos, but nothing too distracting.

Madison Deserved Better
Format: Kindle
Madison was a beta...except she wasn't any longer. She was a late presenting Omega. And she was struggling. She was tall and thin, not tiny and curvy. She was opinionated. She was everything an Omega was not. After suffering through her first heat, her friends took her to Ardor, a club where Omegas came to safely find Alphas. She's not expecting much but then she connects with a sexy beta. And when she meets his Alphas, they set her body on fire. Maybe, she's found her no-strings-attached heat pack. Maybe, she's found something more. I could not connect with the characters in this book, so their story never resonated with me. And there was no love story; there was sex. Grey made it clear from the beginning that he had a true love and it was his beta boy, Rian. He went so far as to reassure Rian “Say the word, I’ll never touch her again. Lucas can put the babies in her. I only need you, beta boy”. So, Madison was there for babies, no emotions needed. Nice. No, thank you. I want the Omega to be the center of their world, not an incubator. Lucas and Rian weren't any better. After her heat, they let her leave. Not one of them made her feel valued. No one gave her a reason to stay or even offered a cuddle. And the sex didn't even come across as mind-blowing. Madison deserved better.

Pretty Darn Good
Format: Kindle
So I’ve been on a omega kick and this definitely hit the spot. Madison was frustrating at times with how she acted towards Lucas, Gray, and Rian. It was like she said towards the end, she didn’t believe she deserved nice things. It would have been nice to hear from her best friends again. They kind of were there in the beginning and the gone except for mention of text messages received from them. I feel like her friends would have been great help in encouraging Madison to go with the pack and never give Brent another chance because he was toxic. I loved Rian. His personality was awesome. His humor. His ability to make Madison comfortable whenever she was feeling overwhelmed. And the fact he fell for her and she fell for him first. They are cute together. I do feel like Lucas was the odd man out though. Like Lucas didn’t develop as much of a relationship with Madison. I would have really liked to see more development in the relationship between them. It was also the same with him and Rian. There is really no relationship displayed. Most of the relationship being displayed is between Rian and Gray. Nevertheless, I loved reading about the dynamic that came to fruition during the entirety of this story. Madison finally got her happiness. And Brent finally got punched in the face. Everyone got exactly what they deserve.

Pack's Promise was okay but not great
Format: Kindle
Pack's Promise was okay but not great. I won't recommend it to anyone that I know. PRO: * Very likable characters * Lots of steamy scenes that are written very well * The spelling and grammar are good * The punctuation is good with the exception of using hyphens instead of commas. Lots of hyphens. Lots and lots of hyphens. CON: * Almost no interactions with any characters outside of Madison and the pack * Nearly no plot. They meet, get together for a heat, agree to make it permanent, done * Quite a few typos such as extraneous words, missing words and words out of order THINGS TO KNOW: * More steamy scenes than storytelling * A lot of MM & MMM, some MFMM during heat
