Influenced by memory, photography, and imagination, the artwork explores the emotional undercurrents of a place. Rendered with masterful depth, Somers’s evocative cityscapes transform city nights into a symphony of shadow and luminescence.

Drawn to cities after dark, he captures neon reflecting on rain-slicked streets, headlights bouncing from buildings and windows glowing against deep blue skies. Vibrant highlights of yellow, orange and red cut through moody blues and earthy tones, creating contrast, reflection and a sense of movement – constructing a dreamlike urban landscape.

Through layered oils and luminous light, Alan Somers does not simply paint cityscapes, he paints atmosphere, inviting us to experience the city not as it is, but as it feels.
