How to Install Buffalo OP-NVSSD

Installing the Buffalo OP-NVSSD is straightforward and quick, whether you’re upgrading a laptop, a desktop, or adding a fast NVMe cache to a NAS, provided the system has an M.2 PCIe NVMe slot. Follow these general steps to get started:

  • Power down the computer or NAS and unplug all cables. If you’re installing in a laptop, consult the user manual for the correct service procedure to access the M.2 slot.
  • Locate the M.2 PCIe NVMe slot on the motherboard or the NAS motherboard. Many systems feature a single M.2 slot, while some high-end boards provide multiple slots with varying keys and lengths. The Buffalo OP-NVSSD is designed for standard M.2 form factors compatible with PCIe NVMe.
  • Insert the Buffalo OP-NVSSD into the M.2 slot at a slight angle, aligning the notch with the slot’s key. Gently press the drive down and secure it with the mounting screw provided by your system or enclosure. Do not overtighten, as this can damage the connector or the drive.
  • Power on the system and enter the BIOS/UEFI setup to confirm that the NVMe drive is detected. Depending on the motherboard, you may need to enable NVMe support or set a storage configuration to recognize the drive correctly.
  • Boot into your operating system. The OS should detect the new drive automatically. If not, use the Disk Management utility (Windows) or Disk Utility (macOS) to initialize, partition, and format the drive. Choose a suitable file system (for example, NTFS or exFAT on Windows, APFS or exFAT on macOS) based on your use case and compatibility needs.
  • For NAS installations, follow your NAS provider’s instructions to add a new NVMe drive to the storage pool or to configure cache acceleration. Ensure firmware is up to date and the drive is recognized by the NAS operating system.

Frequently asked questions

  • Q: Is the Buffalo OP-NVSSD compatible with NAS devices? A: Yes. The OP-NVSSD is designed to work with NAS devices that support NVMe storage in M.2 form, allowing for fast caching and high-performance data access within shared storage environments.
  • Q: What benefits does PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe provide over SATA SSDs? A: PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe offers substantially higher bandwidth and lower latency compared with SATA SSDs. This results in faster boot times, quicker file transfers, improved application responsiveness, and better performance for demanding workloads such as video editing, gaming, and virtualization.
  • Q: Do I need a heatsink for this M.2 drive? A: A heatsink is not always required, but high-performance NVMe SSDs can generate additional heat under sustained workloads. If your system has limited airflow or you operate in a hot environment, adding adequate cooling can help maintain peak performance and prolong the drive’s lifespan.
  • Q: How should I format the drive after installation? A: Formatting depends on your operating system and usage. Common choices include NTFS (Windows), APFS (macOS), or exFAT for cross-platform access. For NAS usage, you may format as ext4 (Linux-based NAS) or use the NAS’s native file system according to the device’s documentation.
  • Q: What warranty coverage comes with this Buffalo SSD? A: The Buffalo OP-NVSSD carries a 3-year limited warranty, reflecting Buffalo’s commitment to reliability and post-purchase support. Check the warranty terms in your region for details on coverage and claim processes.

A Surprisingly Premium, No-Nonsense Corkscrew That Just Works
Color: Silver, Number of Items: 1
I’ve gone through more corkscrews than I care to admit. Some cute, some clever, some that looked great on the countertop but absolutely fell apart the second they met a stubborn cork. This opener immediately impressed me with how solid and dependable it feels. The zinc alloy gives it a weight and sturdiness that you notice the moment you pick it up, and it has that “built to last” vibe you don’t usually get at this price point. What I love most is that there’s no learning curve, no gimmicks, and no unnecessary parts that will eventually loosen or snap. It’s the kind of tool that feels familiar but elevated. The turning mechanism is smooth, controlled, and surprisingly effortless, even on older bottles where the cork can be unpredictable. The wings rise evenly, don’t wobble, and give you a ton of leverage, so removing the cork feels almost too easy. It also doubles as a great bottle opener, and I appreciate that it actually feels like a bottle opener you can trust rather than a flimsy add-on tucked in as an afterthought. If you want something flashy for your bar cart, this may not be the centerpiece. But if you’re looking for a reliable, heavy-duty corkscrew that quietly outperforms the pretty ones, this is it. An incredibly solid value and easily one of the most dependable openers I’ve owned.

Classic design and good sturdy quality
Color: Silver, Number of Items: 2
Let's just address the elephant in the room. My family says I am cheap, but I call it thrifty. Either way, I bought a couple of cork screws earlier that left like they would break at any moment when pushing down the arms, and after a few bottles, one arm did bend. So this time, i paid attention to the reviews and chose these cork screws as the review said they are solid quality. The review was correct. This design is pretty fool proof and easy for anyone to use. You do not need super human strength to pull the cork. Just remove the foil, screw the sharp coil into the cork until the arms have reached the top of their range, the place the bottle on a hard surface and push both arms down. Easy peasy. The bad openers I mentioned earlier did not have anything on the opener arms and the metal was thin. It did not provide a good feel. These cork screws have thicker arms and have a rubber grip on them which provides a much more comfortable operation. I would definitely recommend these cork screws for quality and value.

Good wine opener, not great
Color: Silver, Number of Items: 1
Definitely doesn’t feel as robust as other openers I’ve used. Takes a bit for the teeth to catch and you have to ensure it’s all the way in before pulling the cork out. Still gets the job done though

great addition to your wine collection

The wine opener works just fine. I had one like this before but it was difficult to get the cork out. This one is much easier and it also looks good as well. The handles add a nice touch.
