How to install QNAP Dual M.2 22110/2280 SATA SSD Expansion Card

Follow these steps to install and configure the QNAP Dual M.2 22110/2280 SATA SSD Expansion Card in a compatible NAS. This guide emphasizes safe handling and proper seating of components to ensure reliable operation and optimal performance.

1) Power down and prepare: Turn off your QNAP NAS, unplug all cables, and remove the unit’s cover according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Static electricity can damage sensitive components, so consider using an anti-static wrist strap. Only handle the card and SSDs when you are grounded and the device is powered off.

2) Locate the PCIe slot: Identify a compatible PCIe expansion slot inside the NAS that accepts QM2-style or PCIe expansion cards. Review your NAS model’s compatibility documentation to confirm support for dual M.2 SATA expansion before proceeding.

3) Install the expansion card: Align the QNAP Dual M.2 expansion card with the PCIe slot and gently press it into place until it seats securely. Secure the card with the appropriate screw or retention mechanism used by your NAS enclosure, ensuring it remains stable during operation.

4) Insert M.2 SSDs: Install two M.2 SATA SSDs into the card’s slots, choosing 22110 or 2280 drives as you planned. Make sure each drive is firmly seated and level, then recheck that the screws are tightened to hold the drives securely in position.

5) Reassemble and power up: Replace the NAS cover, reconnect cables, and power on the unit. After boot, access the NAS interface (QTS or QuTS hero) and verify that the expansion card and both M.2 drives are detected.

6) Configure caching or storage: Use the NAS storage management tools to configure the newly installed SSDs. You can set up a cache for frequently accessed data or establish a tiered storage configuration to optimize performance for hot data. Follow on-screen prompts specific to your NAS model to complete the setup.

7) Monitor and optimize: After installation, monitor drive health and performance through the NAS dashboard. Regularly check SMART data and firmware updates for the expansion card and the M.2 drives to ensure reliable operation and continued performance gains.

Note: While the card provides dual M.2 SATA slots, always verify compatibility with your exact QNAP NAS model, firmware version, and supported features (cache, tiering, or storage expansion) before purchasing or installing. Proper cooling and airflow in the NAS enclosure help maintain performance and longevity for SSDs under heavy workloads.

Frequently asked questions

  • Q: What does this expansion card do for my QNAP NAS? A: It adds two M.2 SATA SSD slots to your NAS, enabling caching or additional fast storage. This can significantly reduce latency and improve IOPS for multitasking, media streaming, backups, and virtualized workloads.
  • Q: Which M.2 drives are compatible? A: The card supports two M.2 SATA SSDs in 22110 or 2280 lengths. Always check NAS compatibility and ensure you select SATA-based M.2 drives to match the expansion card’s specification.
  • Q: Do I need extra power for the drives? A: No additional power connector is typically required. The card draws power from the NAS’s PCIe slot, with the drives powered through the same connection.
  • Q: Can I use NVMe drives with this card? A: No, this expansion card is designed for SATA-based M.2 SSDs. If you need NVMe support, look for a different QNAP card designed for NVMe M.2 drives.
  • Q: Is this compatible with all QNAP NAS models? A: Compatibility depends on the NAS model, firmware version, and available PCIe slots. Refer to your NAS product page and the official compatibility list to confirm before purchase.

It was alright
Format: Kindle
Pervious to this book, I had no knowledge of the struggles of the Chinese in the South during the post Civil War era. For that reason, I'm glad I read this book. I enjoyed that this book discussed and gave perspective on many social issues of that time. The main character is spunky and likable. There are many unbelievable scenes and conversations that I did not enjoy because they seemed too far-fetched. Why the author had to include a description of a naked man was also not to my liking. Worst of all, though, was the incredible number of similes in this book. There were just too many, and it got annoying. Overall, it was good enough to read, but I do not highly recommend it.

A Chinese in Atlanta
Format: Kindle
The Girl Downstairs was a charming book. Although the writing isn’t particularly sophisticated, it felt like Jo was letting us peek into the pages of her diary—raw, honest, and deeply personal. Her journey, as the main character, was both heartwarming and heartbreaking. Through her eyes, we witness the simple beauty of connection and the ugly truth of prejudice that has plagued our country for far too long. It’s a powerful reminder that humanity should never be measured by the color of one’s skin. This is another great YA read—I highly recommend it.

Atlanta During the 1890's
Format: Paperback
Whether you like The Downstairs Girl or not depends on what you crave. If you crave historical fiction that will teach you, or that helps you realize the myriad of things that were going on in a certian place and time (Atlanta during the 1890s, or an imaginative author who never use trite metaphors or similes, you will love this book. Or if you want to quickly turn pages, you will be disappointed. If you want a simple plot, do not read this book. If you want an intricately spun story with plenty of mystrey, humor and many surprises, you will love it. Jo Kuan is a Chinese American without voting rights, deStined to be a servang and doesn;t knw who her mother or father are, lives in a basement of a family with Old Gin who she thinks of as old man who adopted not offically but out of love. Chinese Americans were brought into the South after the Civil War to take over what slaves used to do but instead of no pay, they got tiny pay. You could walk or take a streetcar to work. Blacks sat the back of the streetcars, but if you were Chinese American, you didn't know where you sat or were told to gat off. They could not own or rent, where were you supposed to live; It was the start of Jim Crow laws and of cocoa cola. Women suffragettes started working towards the vote of white women. This was not a quiet oeriod of history. I thoroughly enjoyed this peak at Atlanta in the 1890's through an Asian American young woman's eyes, ears and even her nose.
