Eaton Tripp Lite SmartPro 3000VA UPS — 120V Line-Interactive Sine Wave with 7 Outlets

The Eaton Tripp Lite Series SmartPro 3000VA UPS is designed to safeguard your critical IT infrastructure against power disruptions, outages, and irregular power conditions. Built for reliability in data centers, server rooms, and distributed networks, this 120V line-interactive sine wave UPS delivers clean, stable power to essential equipment while offering intelligent monitoring, flexible deployment, and scalable management options. With a robust 3000VA/3000W rating, seven outlets, and a form factor that supports both rack-mount and tower configurations, the SmartPro series is engineered to keep servers, storage, networking gear, and sensitive electronics operating smoothly when the power grid falters.

  • High-capacity, 3000VA / 3000W: This UPS provides ample runtime for critical devices during outages, supporting servers, network switches, storage arrays, and other demanding equipment with a strong reserve of backup power.
  • 7 outlets with battery backup and surge protection: Seven NEMA 5-15R outlets deliver reliable power distribution for essential peripherals, while built-in surge protection shields your gear from spikes and transients. An LCD display keeps you informed about load, battery status, input/output voltages, and fault indicators at a glance.
  • Line-Interactive Sine Wave topology: The sine-wave output ensures compatibility with modern power supplies and sensitive electronics, providing clean power for reliable system operation under both normal and interrupted conditions. Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) helps stabilize fluctuating input voltages without drawing on the battery unnecessarily.
  • Flexible deployment: Rack or Tower, 2U footprint: The SmartPro UPS is designed for versatile installation in data center racks or as a freestanding tower, with rack-mount ears and a compact 2U form factor that saves space while maximizing accessibility for maintenance and monitoring.
  • Management options: LCD, USB, DB9, and optional Network Card

How to install Eaton Tripp Lite Series SmartPro 3000VA UPS

Installing the SmartPro 3000VA UPS is straightforward and designed to minimize downtime during deployment. Follow these steps to ensure a safe and effective setup that maximizes uptime and protects connected equipment:

  • Plan your layout: Determine whether the UPS will be mounted in a rack or placed as a tower. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit and avoid enclosing it in tight spaces where heat can accumulate. Position the UPS close to the equipment it will protect, but allow space for cable management and servicing.
  • Mount or position the unit: If rack-mounting, install the 2U chassis using the included rack ears and hardware. If using it as a tower, set it on a stable surface with unobstructed airflow. Keep the LCD panel accessible for quick status checks.
  • Connect the loads: Plug your critical devices into the UPS’s 7 outlets. Avoid overloading individual outlets and distribute high-draw devices evenly across the outlets to maintain adequate reserve power during an outage.
  • Connect the input power and management interfaces: Plug the UPS into a properly grounded AC outlet. If you plan to monitor or manage remotely, connect the USB cable to a computer or use the DB9 serial port for management software. If you have the optional network card, install it according to the card’s installation guide and connect to your network.
  • Power on and configure: Turn on the UPS and allow it to run its initial self-test. Use the LCD to verify input voltage, load level, battery status, and estimated runtime. Install and configure compatible management software to enable automated shutdown policies, alerting, and remote monitoring. Schedule regular self-tests to ensure continued reliability.

Frequently asked questions

  • Q: What does 3000VA / 3000W mean for my setup? A: 3000VA represents the apparent power capacity, while 3000W is the real power the UPS can deliver to connected equipment. This pairing provides strong backup for critical IT gear, including servers, switches, and storage, during outages or voltage irregularities.
  • Q: What is the benefit of line-interactive sine wave operation? A: Line-interactive technology helps correct common power fluctuations using automatic voltage regulation, reducing battery wear and extending runtime. The sine wave output ensures clean, stable power suitable for sensitive electronics and modern power supplies.
  • Q: How many devices can I run off the seven outlets? A: The number of devices depends on their combined load. Distribute high-power components across outlets and monitor total draw via the LCD or management software to avoid exceeding the UPS rating.
  • Q: Is the network card included or optional? A: The network management card is optional. It enables remote monitoring, alerting, and centralized shutdown policies for larger networks or data centers.
  • Q: How do I replace the battery? A: Battery replacement should be performed by qualified personnel following the user manual. The unit uses a rechargeable SLA battery designed for replacement at the end of its service life. Always disconnect from power and follow proper safety precautions when servicing the unit.
  • Q: Can I use this UPS in a rack with other equipment? A: Yes. The 2U form factor is designed for rack deployment, and the unit is compatible with standard 19-inch racks. Ensure adequate clearance for ventilation and cable access.
  • Q: What software works with this UPS? A: The UPS typically supports Eaton/Tripp Lite management software and third-party UPS monitoring tools via USB, DB9, or network interfaces when a network card is installed.

Perfect to make extension cords
Size: 20FT, Style: 16AWG-3C
I have several portable tungsten work lights on stands. They product a high level of light which is great for work in a place without adequate lighting. I can move the lights around and get the best lighting. The problem is that they have short cords. This wire, the 16AWG (with the addition of a plug and a receptacle) will solve that problem. The outer jacket is rugged enough to handle daily use and it is light enough that it is not a bother to carry several to the work site. With a rating of 13.1 amps it maybe a little light to use as a replacement cord for power tools, but this wire does come in several other sizes including 14AWG which should work on most tools.

nice 3 strand 16 gauge wire
Size: 20FT, Style: 16AWG-3C, Size: 20FT, Style: 16AWG-3C
This review is for a 20 foot sample of 3 stranded 16 gauge wire. 300V capacity. Using a multimeter, I got a resistance reading of 0.2 ohms across each of the three strands (at roughly 68 degrees Farenheit). Specs say 26 strands of 0.254 mm Tinned copper wire are inside each cable. Good flexibility in the covering.
