Just 20 seconds into the new Phosphorescent album, you hear something so immediate, so purposeful, so damn infectious, it's clear that something special is underway. 'Here's to Taking It Easy' is the culmination of the past three years: A grand statement, the album Phosphorescent were made to make! 2007's 'Pride' was a deeply personal, haunting record that Phosphorescent's Matthew Houck recorded on his own, playing all of the instruments himself. 2009's 'To Willie' (their tribute to Willie Nelson) featured Houck joined by his bandmates, rambling through the Nelson catalog with fifths of whiskey and undeniable swagger. Recorded in the band's hometown of Brooklyn with outside mixing assistance from Stuart Sikes (White Stripes, Cat Power, Loretta Lynn, the Walkmen), this album breathes with life like nothing Phosphorescent has ever done before. Lead track 'It's Hard to Be Humble (When You're from Alabama)' would sound perfect pumped out of the car stereo with the windows rolled down! "Heaven Sittin' Down" recalls the country rock of to Willie, while the stark album closer, "Los Angeles" sounds as if it was lifted from the grooves of Neil Young's on the Beach. Jam after jam, Here's to Taking It Easy brings everything together for Phosphorescent; a classic that could be from another era, but sounds perfect right here, right now.

This salty 'Frogs' has got legs
Format: Hardcover
I had to read 'Frogs' for school, all the translations I'd found were awful, then I stumbled upon Mr. Henderson's translation and hit the jackpot. No Dryasdust prissiness here, the language is earthy and accessible, and the scholarly footnotes are also very well done.

An excellent translation of Aristophanes' finest works
Format: Hardcover
This book, the fourth in Dr. Henderson's fine series of parallel translations, is perhaps the best of the series, containing as it does the comic masterpiece "Frogs," in my opinion the finest of Aristophanes' works. Henderson's translations are crisp, clear, and hilarious, and his extensive use of vulgarity is always textually and philologically sound (as a few comparisons of Liddell-Scott and the OED will surely reveal). In short, it is the definitive edition of Aristophanes' works, and the only translation accurate enough to be worth having on your bookshelf (and believe me, I've read quite a few).

Helps create a solid biblical foundation.
This is such a solid devotional. I have gifted this several times. My son even used this devotional his senior year when he would lead a small group at his school. I can pick up this devotional randomly and always be fed spiritually, just open to today’s date or it’s even better if you read it every day, it is a 365 Day dated devotional. The photo I shared is of a social media post I made back in 2018 so that’s what was included in the text.

The best of many devotionals
Among the many good devotionals we have, my wife and I think this is the best. I made a January 1, 2025, commitment to read it every morning before touching any of my devices. It was easy to do all year because it spoke to my life in fresh ways every day. I am doing the same thing in 2026. We have given many copies to special friends, who also report how important it is to their spiritual growth.
