Blackmagic Design 12V 12W Locking Power Supply

The Blackmagic Design 12V 12W Locking Power Supply is the standard AC adapter for the company’s smaller desktop hardware and signal converters. Its defining feature is the threaded locking barrel connector, which prevents the power cable from being accidentally kicked or pulled out—a critical requirement for live broadcast environments.

In 2026, this remains the most common power supply for "utility" gear in video racks and streaming setups.

Core Functionality

  • Threaded Locking Mechanism: The barrel connector features a screw-on collar that anchors the plug to the device. This ensures a constant, uninterrupted power flow, even in high-traffic areas or mobile production kits.

  • Global Compatibility: It is a universal "wall wart" style adapter that ships with a set of international socket adapters (typically US, UK, EU, and AU), allowing it to work on any power grid from 100V to 240V.

  • Standard 2.5mm Barrel: It utilizes a 2.5mm ID / 5.5mm OD barrel plug with center-positive polarity. While the "locking" feature is specific to Blackmagic gear, the electrical connection is compatible with many 12V DC devices.

Compatibility

This 12W power supply is specifically designed for low-power studio utility hardware:

  • ATEM Switchers:

    • ATEM Mini (Original)

    • ATEM Mini Pro / Pro ISO

    • ATEM SDI / SDI Pro ISO

  • Converters:

    • All Blackmagic Mini Converters (e.g., SDI to HDMI, HDMI to SDI, Analog to SDI).

    • ATEM Camera Converter.

    • MultiView 4 HD.

⚠️ Warning: This unit provides 12 Watts (1 Amp) of power. It is not powerful enough for Blackmagic cameras (which typically require 30W) or larger switchers like the ATEM Mini Extreme (which requires 60W). Using a 12W supply on a 60W device will cause the unit to shut down or provide unstable performance.

Operational Insight (2026)

In 2026, the "locking" feature is considered a standard for professional signal paths. If you are using a Mini Converter tucked behind a monitor or inside a flight case, the locking barrel ensures that even as the rack is moved or cables are managed, the signal won't drop due to a loose power connection.

  • Compatibility Check: If your device has a smooth, non-threaded power port, this cable will still plug in and provide power, but the locking nut will simply sit idle on the cable.

Pro Tip: If you are building a permanent rack with multiple converters, consider a centralized power distributor. Using 10 individual "wall wart" adapters can quickly clutter your power strips and block adjacent outlets.

Best ever
Flavor Name: Banana Bread, Size: 25.4 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I’ve tried a few others brands. This one is the best. I’ve drank flavored coffee for years. Banana bread is 10 star worthy, rich in flavor and it doesn’t take a lot. Very smooth. I like it alot. I’m not looking for another brand because I already know where it’s good. I don’t mess around with my coffee ☕️ 🍌 🌰 🍞

Try it in a carrot cake, it is yummy!!!
Flavor Name: Chai Tea Concentrate, Size: 25.4 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I have without question been extremely happy with all of the DaVinci syrups, and products I have purchased. This chai syrup really was perfect for making chai lattes for my wife, and adding some chai flavor to other drinks, and I even used it in some cheesecake frosting, and inside of a carrot cake recipe, and it was perfect. I strongly suggest that you try it in carrot cake, and in other things like frosting. The chai carrot cake I made ended up being the perfect compliment to a nice cappuccino. I made a bunch of cupcakes using the carrot cake mix with the chai, and the chai cream cheese frosting, and with a nice coffee made the coffee taste better, and the carrot cake complimented the coffee perfectly. I have made them a few times now, and will say don't overdo and put too much frosting onto the carrot cake, and it is something I can't recommend enough. I actually have been using it more it making baked goods, and little desserts more then for chai lattes even. It just really works perfectly in them.

Comparing to the coffee giant version
Flavor Name: Brown Sugar, Size: 25.4 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Flavor Name: Brown Sugar, Size: 25.4 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
Starbucks comparison (from a personal standpoint): I’m fortunate enough to have a bottle of Starbucks Brown Sugar. Problem is, I’m almost out. Looking around at some alternative options, and reading the reviews- I see some saying this is a good substitute. Because I happen to have the syrup on hand, I figured I should see if it is, because it would be great given the low cost of DaVinci syrup. This picture I’m attaching is just to see the color difference. Consistency wise, the DaVinci syrup is much lighter, more runny. The Starbucks is definitely a thicker liquid, that runs much slower. Flavor is the big one: DaVinci is lighter on taste, and sweeter. The best way to describe the flavor is comparing DaVinci’s to 100% real maple syrup that’s been diluted down with water. It’s good, but not really similar (in my opinion) to Starbucks Brown Sugar. Starbucks is more smokey in flavor, more strong/bold. My drinks are made using espresso, oak milk, cinnamon powder, and ice. I made my drink the same way, but used DaVinci Syrup this time. I found that the same amount of syrup that I use for the Starbucks, didn’t feel like it had a strong enough flavor. What did I do? I added an extra ounce of DaVinci hoping to get a stronger flavor. The problem is, DaVinci is more sweet than the Starbucks syrup (in my opinion) and ended up making my drink taste too sweet. It’s sweet enough that I’m not going to finish drinking it. I’m not knocking the DaVinci syrup itself. I think it’s a good brand and a good flavor. It’s just not the flavor I was hoping would solve my issue for a Starbucks imitation. I would encourage anyone to still try this syrup, but do so to enjoy it for being its own flavor.
