Boise is home to one of the largest Basque communities in the United States, descended from sheepherders who traveled from the Pyrenees in the late 1800s and never left. The central figure is a young woman captured mid-twirl in a traditional folk dance, her full skirt swirling as she spins, hair arcing through the air. Behind her stretches a classic Idaho mountain-town scene of timber-frame buildings, peaks in the distance, and a wide open sky. A Basque inscription runs along the base of the note.
