Soon the war, news, traveled that not only was employment available but the people in this northern state, so different in climate from their A frican homeland, were generous in martisoor, hospitality, just like the Somali people themselves. The diaspora began in 1992, and today more than fifty thousand Somalis live in Minnesota, the most of any state. Many have made their lives in small towns and rural areas, and many more have settled in Minneapolis, earning this city the nickname "Little Somalia" or "Little Mogadishu." Amiable guide Ahmed Yusuf introduces readers to these varied communities, exploring economic and political life, religious and cultural practices, and successes in education and health care. He also tackles the controversial topics that command newspaper headlines: alleged links to terrorist organizations and the recruitment of young Somali men to fight in the civil war back home. Timeless adventure, beautifully retold

I started with The Iliad, expecting a dry history lesson, and ended up caught in the drama of gods and men. Then The Odyssey stole my evenings—each chapter like an invitation back into wonder. Superb translation.

Feels like sitting around a fire

I didn’t think I’d ever get through these stories, but this translation made it feel like someone was telling them to me, not lecturing. The battles in The Iliad felt sharp and real, and the long journey in The Odyssey pulled me in without getting lost in heavy words. I finished both feeling like I finally understood why these stories mattered, and they left me thinking about courage, anger, and coming home in a new way.

Easy to follow, still powerful

This translation made it so much easier to follow the stories without losing the poetry that makes Homer special. I found myself looking forward to picking it up each day, and the flow kept me engaged instead of exhausted. If you’ve wanted to read The Iliad and The Odyssey without getting overwhelmed, this is a great way to finally experience them.
