The Planck's Constant Apparatus Simple 7xleds is a tool commonly used in experiments involving Planck's constant, a crucial constant in the field of quantum mechanics. It includes a setup of seven LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) in a basic arrangement that illustrates the photoelectric effect and allows students to accurately calculate Planck's constant through experimentation.
To accurately calculate Planck's Constant, the energy levels of photons of various wavelengths (or colors) must be measured. This is traditionally done using a 'photo tube' to measure the energy levels of electrons. However, our instrument simplifies this process by utilizing 7 LEDs, each receiving a specific voltage to initiate the flow of current. The voltage needed for each LED corresponds to the energy of the associated wavelength's photon.
With the use of 7 readings, 2 of which are Infra Red, Planck's Constant can be determined by plotting a graph. While not as basic as using a 'photo tube', the method produces favorable results and comes at a lower cost.
