Math Mammoth Fractions 2 continues the study of fraction topics after Math Mammoth Fractions 1. This book is meant for fifth grade, and deals in-depth with the following topics:

* simplifying; including simplifying before multiplying;
* multiplication of fractions (and of mixed numbers);
* division of fractions.

We start out by simplifying fractions. Since this process is the opposite of making equivalent fractions, studied in Math Mammoth Fractions 1, it should be relatively simple for students to understand. We also use the same visual model, just backwards: This time the pie pieces are joined together instead of split apart.

Next we study multiplying a fraction by a whole number, and multiplying a fraction by a fraction. Then, we find the area of a rectangle with fractional side lengths, and show that the area is the same as it would be found by multiplying the side lengths.

Simplifying before multiplying is a process that is not absolutely necessary for fifth graders. I have included it here because it prepares students for the same process in future algebra studies and because it makes fraction multiplication easier.

Students also multiply mixed numbers, and study how multiplication can be seen as resizing or scaling. This means, for example, that the multiplication (2/3) _ 18 km can be thought of as finding two-thirds of 18 km.

Next, we study the division of fractions. The first lesson on the topic shows how fractions can be seen as divisions; in other words, for example, 5/3 is the same as 5 Ö 3. This of course gives us a means of dividing whole numbers and getting fractional answers (for example, 20 Ö 6 = 3 2/6).

The next lesson on the topic explores the thought of solving division problems by multiplying, and then introduces reciprocal numbers and the common shortcut for fraction division.

The following two lessons focus on two ways to think about division: equal sharing, and fitting the divisor (measurement division), and how they apply to fraction division. Here is an example of equal sharing: If two people equally share 4/5 of a pizza, how much will each person get? This is represented by the division (4/5) Ö 2 = 2/5.

The answer key is appended to the book.

A Great Filter (Installed on a 2014 Acura RDX)
I installed this on a 2015 Acura RDX and it has been a fine replacement for the original air filter. The filter offers a good value and resembles the filter that it replaced and seems to be an equivalent replacement in every way. It fit into the housing perfectly and was just as easy to replace as the original filter was. The white color of the filter also makes it easy to see if an excess of dirt has built up on the filter. I'd recommend this filter. The materials are good, it offers equivalent functionality, and great value for the money.

Excellent quality and price
The picture above is of two different brand engine air filters. One is a Fram Extra Guard and the other is the KAX filter, which costs half as much. Can you tell which one is the cheaper KAX filter? There may be a difference in material that is not visible, but they feel and look the same. It seems like a safe bet to try out the KAX and see how well it performs/lasts.

Just Right
Fits just right. The paper filter material seems to be the same quality as the brand name filter I took out with the only percievable difference is price and packaging. One nice thing here is that once taken out of the box, the filter is wrapped in light weight plastic so you don't get the new filter dirty when taking out the old one. Just unwrap it prior to installation for a clean install. Hope this helps.

Same Quality, Cheaper Price!
Fits exactly as it should (2018 Acura RDX) and performs as well as any other brand I've used over the years. Construction and material quality appear as good as (or better) than any other off-the-shelf brand. I have no qualms about using this brand in the future and saving money doing so, compared to other brands.
