This project partner upcycles mixed plastic waste and polypropylene (PP), a common plastic type found in household and commercial packaging, into pails and storage boxes, helping address plastic pollution and creating a more circular economy.

In the region, the plastic waste crisis is exacerbated by limited waste management infrastructure and a high volume of single-use plastics. To help mitigate this, the partner utilizes post-consumer recycled (PCR) PP as a primary feedstock for manufacturing. This not only helps divert plastic waste from the environment but also reduces reliance on virgin plastic, making the production process more cost-efficient and sustainable.

The collection process begins with informal waste collectors who gather recyclable materials from households, businesses, and public areas. These materials are then sold to junkshops, which act as intermediaries by aggregating larger volumes of recyclables. From there, the materials are passed on to recyclers, who handle cleaning, grinding, and pelletizing of the PP plastic. Once processed, the recycled pellets are delivered to this project partner for manufacturing.

Through this model, they are not only helping reduce environmental impact but also contributing to the local recycling value chain—supporting livelihoods and promoting circular economy practices in the region.
