The following thoughts grow out of messages delivered during the course of a fourteen-week crusade for personal spiritual renewal. Delivered on Sunday morning, the ideas were then printed and studied the following Wednesday evening in small-group settings. The themes express the concerns I feel germane to personal spiritual renewal.
Prior to beginning the series an extensive questionnaire was circulated, allowing members to evaluate themselves spiritually. The questionnaire was divided into categories, each corresponding to a projected message theme. Thus our people were alerted to their needs before these were spoken to. This personal spiritual checkup is reproduced here (see p. 107) and may be used before, during, or after your reading.
This book has one goal: to produce evangelistic churches. However, my words are not addressed to groups. I direct them to you, personally. It is impossible to reshape congregations without renewing individuals. People just like you mean the difference between living and dead churches. Evangelism awaits a change in you.
