"j US t" - pronounced "Just Us" - is the new album from legendary Hamburg band, Faust. Founding members Jean-Herve Peron and Zappi Diermaier have laid down 12 musical foundations, inviting the whole world to use them as a base on which to build their own music. The tracks presented by Peron and Diermaier are clearly, intrinsically typical of Faust in their own right, yet offer enough space for completely different works to develop. Which is exactly what they hope will happen. While Diermaier largely remains true to his habitual handiwork - drums and percussion -Peron, as we might expect, incorporates all manner of unusual sonic sources alongside his bass, various string instruments and piano, even using a sewing machine as a metronome. Tracks like "nur nous" and "ich bin ein pavian" show that Faust have lost none of their predilection for avant-garde Dadaism and improvisation. Peron and Diermaier actually surprise US with folkloristic excursions ("cavaquinho," "gammes"). in short, there is something for everyone to work with here. Peron and Diermaier await the results with bated breath. Faust will follow the same principle on the accompanying tour by inviting local artists to collaborate with them on stage. The history of the band: "There is no group more mythical than Faust." Thus wrote English musician and eccentric Julian Cope. Which says it all really, neither the habitus nor the music of the Hamburg group was easy to grasp. While some lauded Faust as the best thing that ever happened to rock, others dismissed them as shameless dilettantes. Their collage of Dadaism, avant garde rock and free improvisation radically divided opinion. When the first LP was unleashed on the world in 1971, Faust were very much the prophet in their own land, as the saying goes: few were interested in listening to their music - in Germany. Not so across the Channel: this is where Faust's career really kickstarted. These monoliths of avant-garde rock sold 100,000 copies of their album the Faust Tapes. More than 40 years after their debut, Faust have come up with another archetypical album: inspiring, innovative, unpredictable, crossing boundaries, anarchic - Faustian!

It does exactly what's advertised, which is perform poorly

1 star because it does exactly what's advertised if you scrutinize the listing, but what it does is so mind numbingly stupid nobody would assume it's this poor of a product. It comes with a stand alone power input, but to use it properly you need an additional USBC power supply to feed into it, and oh yeah also most of the USBC ports deliver low power, and the USBA ports deliver no power. This is like a weird peripheral stuck in a time warp torn between 1998 and the modern day. Nobody is asking for this and the subtlety of how dumb this design is is reflected by the "Frequently returned item" disclaimer. Whoever product managed this needs to rethink their career

Need power AND data? You'll need a second power supply.

If you only need to connect peripherals like an external drive to your computer or tablet and provide power to the peripheral devices, then this hub should work for you. Please note that it WILL NOT provide pass-through power to your computer or tablet without adding an additional power source. Read on if you feel this may apply to you.
I purchased this Anker hub for the very specific purpose of connecting my DSLR camera to the Cascable App on my 4th generation iPad Air. This allows my clients to preview their portraits on a larger screen during a photoshoot.
My hope was, that out of the box, the hub would connect my camera and iPad (which it did) as well as charge my iPad throughout an entire day of work. Unfortunately the product description provided by Anker does not clearly state that pass-through power to your laptop or tablet is only possible by connecting an additional power supply to the PD in port (USB-C) which is located next to the DC power port that connects to the included power supply. It's by no means an elegant solution, but it gets the job done. UPDATE: this is now addressed by amazon in the "About this item" section.
Fortunately I had a spare 65W USB power adapter that I was able to connect to the PD port and get power to my iPad. If not I would have to buy that additional piece of equipment to make this work for my needs.
My thanks to others who have taken the time to mention this in their reviews - saving me the frustration of sending this back.
