From the pen of one of Amherst, Massachusetts's most important women comes an intriguing glimpse into the nineteenth century. Twice, Orra White Hitchcock traveled with her husband, Edward, a famous geologist and president of Amherst College. She kept meticulous diary entries of their journeys, observing with wit and frankness the people and places she encountered. Orra writes behind-the-scenes accounts of a scientific conference in Edinburgh and of a visit with some of the century's most notable contemporary scientists in London. She describes in stunning and honest detail Sunday services, an international antiwar congress in Frankfurt, and slavery on the streets of Richmond, Virginia. Because she was an open-minded woman, her pages are rich in entertaining stories of botanical gardens, public entertainments, and the shops of London and Paris. She also indulges the reader with romantic descriptions of memorable landscapes in Wales, Ireland, Scotland, Germany, and Switzerland. Spanning the ocean from America to Europe, Orra's never-before-published travel journals offer a vivid, inside look at one woman's unique experiences in a world moving toward modernity.

Looks Sharp! Stiff, Balloon Comfort!
Color: Black, Size: XX-Large
I purchased the PJ PAUL JONES Men's Oxford Button-Down Shirt as a gift, and it comes with a mix of strengths and trade-offs. The buttons are plentiful and high quality, and the inclusion of a couple of spare buttons is a thoughtful touch. The color is a deep, rich shade just as I hoped, giving the shirt a sharp, professional appearance. The fabric has a noticeable texture that looks like cotton, but the heavier thread count gives it a sturdier, more rugged feel, (almost outdoorsy) rather than the soft, premium cotton I expected. My biggest concern is that it may feel scratchy against the skin and less comfortable for long hours of wear. The shirt is also quite boxy in shape, with little to no side curve, which limits ease of movement and can cause it to crease or untuck when bending or sitting. Overall, it’s a durable, well-constructed shirt with a polished look, but comfort and fit may be an issue if you prefer softer fabric and a more tailored, flexible cut.

Nice quality, true-to-size, great value!
Color: White, Size: Medium
Very nice quality for the price point. 100% satisfied, and will definitely be purchasing more. I found this to be true-to-size > I bought a medium, and I am 6’2’ with a 40” chest 15.5” neck, 30” waist - “athletic” build, and this has a nice, nearly tailored, fit to it. The brown buttons (on the white) are a nice stepped-up touch, which had multiple people ask me where I got my shirt.

Know your body type.
Color: Navy Blue, Size: Large
I really liked the look and the buttons when I ordered it but I wound up returning only because I have to have a slim or fitted cut for any shirt to look good on me. This shirt did not hug me in the sides and looked like I was wearing someone else’s clothes. Nice shirt and good quality but it didn’t fit me personally. I did consider having it tailored but the cost of doing that was almost as much as the shirt.
