This rich pictorial treasury documents the early times and ambiance of Queens, one of Long Island's westernmost counties and the largest borough of New York City.Over 260 rare photographs, carefully selected from public and private archives, recall "the good old days" in such communities as Maspeth, Ridgewood, Jamaica, Astoria, Jackson Heights, Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Flushing, College Point, Whitestone, Woodside, Elmhurst, Corona, Bayside, Howard Beach, Richmond Hill, Woodhaven, and many other areas.
Included are vintage views of numerous landmarks and locales -- among them DeWitt Clinton's mansion (Maspeth); the 1655 Robert Coe House (Corona); Arbitration Rock, the traditional border between Brooklyn and Queens from 1660 to 1769; Pettit's Hotel in Jamaica (Washington really did sleep there in 1790); St. James Episcopal Church (1735) in Elmhurst; and Woodside (in one of the oldest known photographs of the area -- 1871-72). Also depicted are a cluster of more recent landmarks: Astoria Studios, the Whitestone Bridge under construction, the 1939 World's Fair, and much more.
Each fascinating photograph is accompanied by a detailed, well-researched caption, while a general Introduction vividly outlines the colorful history of Queens -- from its prehistoric glacial origins through a lengthy period of agricultural development that lasted from colonial times through much of the 1800s, to the twentieth century, when it acquired a largely residential character.
Compiled by two noted experts on Long Island history, this pictorial grand tour will be a must for residents of Queens, Long Islanders, nostalgia buffs, historians, and lovers of vintage photography.

Super thick and soft
Wanted something pretty to put under a lounge chair on our new vinyl flooring. The rug is very thick and soft underfoot. I love the "look" of the irregular shape in the room! I have luxury vinyl flooring and put a "pad" between the rug and the floor to protect the floor "just in case." Plus, the chair on the rug is heavy, especially with someone sitting in it. So, I took the extra precaution. I've had this rug for a few weeks and absolutely LOVE it!

Very happy
I was cautious about buying a fur product sight unseen. There can be so many variations in what you can get. Have to say I'm very happy with everything about this beautiful sheepskin. I've had different kinds of natural fur rugs , including a 90 pelt skunk skin rug! This sheepskin is well made and put together. It's an even soft white color, and only very faint fur/hide scent (to be expected) Gonna get a 2nd one and hope it's exactly the same.

Great Rug @ great price
I really wanted a large sheep skin rug that wasn't fake for my bedroom but didn't want to pay the high price. This was the best price i could find for the size i wanted. It worked out great! No weird smells, very fluffy, nice light color, and good size.

It's a good looking rug for the price!
The size is almost true to measurements which is super great when ordering a natural product! The backing is very nicely finished! No smell! Only comment on my 4 stars would be quality it's just ok, some spots are really soft and some are more ruff as if it was not top quality sheep, and a few random un brushed hair, beside that the color is super it's a creamy light yellow tint (more cream though) for the price I totally recommend this rug.
